Why I went with 16/16g's over 24/18g's
 

I've replied to a few pm's about my choice, so I thought I'd post up why I chose the 16/16g's.

I know the 24/18G's are beasts, but I wanted some other attributes and reliability.
The 16G's were my choice for the following reasons:
Much less expensive;
Big power adder with quicker spool, at the expense of some big top end;
Easier on the clutch. 16G's are tough on it, 24/18g's and you need a clutch.... Now;
I'm keeping my exhaust stock. Quiet, no drone street car. 24/18g's are a waste if your corking up the exhaust, but I've had noisy cars, and although cool at first, unless you're very committed, you may hate the noise over time.
The 996TT is fast and quick enough to make me happy. I just wanted a bit more and the 16G's give about 147hp more, which is more than enough for me.

I tossed around so many setups and finally decided. You are exactly right in buying what fits your needs! You hear so much on here, good and bad about each and every mod which is good info. I guess the main thing is it is for you and you alone. Congrats and I am sure it will be all you hoped for.

Congrats on your decision!!! It's always a tough one how for to go how soon. I always want the most, so I try to spend the money once. A lot of people end up upgrading 2 or 3 times to get to a level they could have been at the first time out. Enjoy. those turbos rip!!!

All i will say is , Just dont ever drive a k24/18g. I was the same , just like you 3 months ago...good luck its a great turbo for the money and plenty fast for 99% of the people.

When i switched from k16s to k16/24 i thought the same...But when i switched to k24/18gs the game was over...I believe in about a year you will do k24/18gs and when you reach 5000rpm you will forget all the reasons you listed...until then,enjoy your 16gs...
P.S. if you drive a k24/18g car...one year might become one month...

After a month or two let us know if you feel the same way about decision! Also someone else can chime in but you really should get different exhaust for more perfromance as stock ones are restrcitive

Actually, I was thinking about upgrading to K24/18gs until I drove a K24/18g car. The seat of the pants torque experience was similar to my car and on cold days, the K24/18g car was having traction issues on boost that I didn't want to deal with.
I preferred the more linear feel of the K16/16g. The K24/18g car is definitely the faster car for highway pulls and 1/4 mile, but the K16/16g car fits my uses better.

That said, the rumors that the K24/18gs are laggy is overblown. They didn't have much more lag than my car (or at least this car didn't).

All that said, I'm starting to think about Tials, so feel free to disregard all of the above. hilarious

lol! aweosme! In regards to the car that had traction issues: was it awd, or rwd? and ws it on 18s or 19s?

I had a 18g and a 16g car at home at the same time... the 16gs do not even compare...

haha...you made me spend more money now. bad influence. But I can definitely say that if lag is the main reason you are going away from 18g...you are 100% wrong. The 18 g feels the same as 16g. The area where 16g shines is loads of TQ at low rpms which is what some people like. Mine made 540 TQ without exhaust at 4500 rpm on a dynodynamics. That's is the best part of 16g compared to 18g...everything else the 18g is flat out better.

lol! yea, markski is a HORRIBLE influence! :) are there any differences in reliability between a k24/18g or a k16/16g kit?

ttboost and I drove each others cars back to back. In my humble opinion, and my butt dyno has not been calibrated, they "felt" similar, though his was certainly faster when we lined them up and punched the gas (he put two car lengths on me by 140).

thanks for the "real-world" info! just so i have an idea, how would your car compare to a stock k16 car with just an ecu tune?
