996 GT2's with 2nd gear popout problem
 

GT2 owners pls. chime in if you had this problem. I would like to know how common this is to 996 GT2's.

yeah theres a huge thread on this . you pretty much need a to replace the tranny theres no easy fix for it.

As far asi know the GT2 did not have this problem.

So anyone you know who owns a 996 gt2 haven't encoutered this problem?

I have never experienced an issue with the gearbox in my 2, nor have I heard of anyone with a Gt2 having a pop out problem. There are only 300 or so in the U.S., so I highly doubt they had an issue.

At what sequence should someone worry?I mean...i have this matter...but only once every...150miles...and only with gas left off and rolling with 2nd gear...should i worry?

Someone please clarify WHAT the 2nd gear popout issue is. Just a brief description of what people call the popout problem.

My GT2 DOES have a 2nd gear popout issue when slightly to moderately decelerating. If this is what people call the 2nd gear popout issue, then it is definitely possible for a GT2 to be affected also.

FWIW, my car NEVER pops out under hard decel or under accel.

If you do a search this stuff is here, but as I recall the fix for the turbo is to USE the GT2 tranny parts as they have steel synchros. The turbo has spindly bress synchros. I also heard that the gears are bigger, better, etc...but I think that is just hearsay at this point...hopefully somoen more knowledgable can chime in...

yup, that is what I saw another board members car do. Under hard acceleration it pooped out of gear. you might just be the rarest case of GT2 popout

Mine never pops under acceleration, only under light deceleration like when coasting in 2nd up to a stoplight, otherwise I never have a problem.

I had the issue on a previous TT 03 my. Porsche replaced the tranny no questions asked once they experienced the problem while testing. If your car is popping out of gear during any kind of deceleration it is a problem. This should not happen at all. It was a problem on earlier models. I have not heard much about it after 03 models.
