Is that a momentary switch? That's what I'd want I think, someplace to the right so I can turn key with left. Honestly pondering this myself now!
It's not momentary, no. I pondered a momentary somewhere on the right side, but decided against that because my right hand always gravitates to waggling the stick to make sure it's not in gear.
man this is a great mod. i get in the car, without any thought at all and autonomically i merely reach for the shifter to ensure neutral and turn key and there you are. just like every other manual I've been driving for the last 50 years!
+1
It is also a nice security feature if you put in a toggle switch instead of hard wiring.
At my first autocross event I could not start my 987.2 boxster right before my run.
Finally I got the car started and had to leave the car on all day.
When I got home I removed that clutch/start switch for good.
The switch was replaced the week before at the dealer under warranty.
When I bought my 996T I put in the same toggle switch as a pre-caution.
The no-clutch at startup is great. Why all the fuss about forgetting if you left the car in gear? If you mash on the brake pedal during startup the car isn't going anywhere even if you left it in gear.
Of course, disregard if you let someone else drive your car.
^ i genuinely think it's a generational thing. for those that grew up and drove vw bugs at 10 yrs old this mod is so obviously an improvement and there IS no downside.
I haven't read in detail this thread but I can code it out in the Ecu when I do tunes for clients. Not sure if anyone brought it up but just throwing it out there.

Do you know if the ECU uses different map is when this switch is activated/circuit is completed? That possibility was brought up earlier I think in reference to some racing bikes.
Back to the software bypass... when the workaround is as easy hand-removing two female cable crimps and sticking a spare fuse between them, it's probably easier for people to try it for themselves before getting their tuners involved in case they want to revert for whatever reason. It's a 60-second mod (the fuse method, not the way I did it).

I understand. I just wanted to throw it out there. Those who ask for it get it from me when it's tuned.

Sweet.
Any word on the map? I admit, one of the reasons I used a switch instead of the full-time fuse was in case the ECU treats on/off scenarios differently.

I simply change one value and you start the car without the clutch. That simple. I haven't messed with the hardware like you guys therefore can't tell you what will happen under all conditions.
I went a little simpler... I just ran wires to the clutch switch. If someone else drives the car, they just start the "normal way". I can do: brake, neutral, turn key, push button.
