Neil, I don't think not breaking into the 10's was dissapointing for this particular event. While the tires were in my opinion a surprisingly good all around tires, they are not purpose built. It was obvious that they played a part in the higher quarter times that were delivered by all entrys. All cars had a fair amount of trouble hooking up off the line with all that power.
The stock 996tt/GT2 has a 3.86-1 first gear ratio. That is fine for a 415-450 bhp engine. It is not fine for the hp representated by these cars. Without changing both first and second gear I would expect problems with the hook up.

Did any of the contestants change these gears?

I think it is disappointing considering the hype and money spent. All the trick bits special programs and hp figures talked about getting into the 10`s should have been a foregone conclusion. When I worked at Roock the 650 we built with the PSI engine done a 1/4 time of 11.1 with 19"s and stock tires and stock gear ratios. That was over 18 months ago and car has never had one issue..

I wonder why you never see any of the big tuners at shoot outs.

The top 1/4 cars were all so close it was ridiculous. We were spinning the tires not the rims on all the cars. I measured last night and we slipped the tire over 12 inches on the rim. 10s were easily there on the top three and one should have been in the 9s. Once again several factors involved and it is hard to crack the 10s on a cold track and these tires and all the slipping on the rims. All the MPHs on the top three were 10 capable. Nothing to be disappointed about. It was a great event. I truly think if any of us had screwed the tires down the 10s would have been all over the place, or at least slicks. The guys driving really did a great job considering they are not 1.4 guys.

I don't think the two professional drivers were "dissapointed" either. Both of them were absolutely amazed with what these cars were doing. Incidentally, it would have been nice to see Roock and some of the other tuners there.

Steven I am not trying to have a dig at anyone but I don’t get your point. You have to compare apples to apples. To have a quick car you have to have hp but you have to be able to put the power down to the floor. With our big conversion 900 hp is easy but the car doesn’t go anywhere just spins the wheels.

Anyway glad everyone enjoyed it

Our points are the same, but honestly for any us to hit the 10s we needed to lock the power down to the ground. That wasn't happening. That extra 10th or so we needed to break it was not going to happen with our conditions. Look at Todd's car with the power and 140MPH. Great example of that. Our points are the same.

The nice part is everyone had the same the same tire set up so the comparison was good. remember this is more like a decathalon not a race. You have to be good at every thing not just a one trick pony. That is why the cars didn't to 10's or maybe even 9's. The cars are capable but not under the constraints of this event.

140 MPH trap speeds are indicative of big power and nothing to be sneezed at.
