To prevent any further pissing contests with my friends, I'm bowing out of this thread. Before I do, I want to make 2 points:
1. I'm truly glad Bryant is getting an EVOMS build. EVOMS has been doing phenomenal work and I would not hesistate for a moment to send my car to them. You never know what the future may hold... 2. Lean is very bad for a motor, regardless if that motor is stock or built. |
The EVOMS GT700 kit come with 60lb injectors, fuel line and 5 bar fpr. Was his car with the SG 700 kit missing these fueling parts?

Stock rods will be fine up to 700 whp if the following conditions are met: Fueling (rails, lines, secondary pump...and now people like Todd are going to 83 lb injectors). Proper gas relative to boost levels. Even with the above you should not run more than 1, 1.1 bars max on quality pump (93 here in Texas) gas. You can run up to 1.5 on C 16, 1.4 on unleaded 109. No more, which is related to using common sense. And you should only run higher boost occasionally. I was told by someone with a lot of experience w/ these motors that at over 640 to the wheels you are talking about maybe 40 hours of use.
IMO, it is common sense in people, not the rods that are the weak link. |

If I could swap in a built bottom end for a reasonable known documented cost aka not my first born, then maybe I'd go further sooner once I'd been able to budget for it. As it stands now it's looking like 50% of the purchase price of the car - sorry that's not going to fly. Those prices might have made more sense when these cars were $100K+, not when they're costing as little as $40K.

Anyway, not trying to start a pissing contest but more frustrated that almost all of EVO threads degenerate into a tuner war/theory/philosophy battle:( I dont recall the owner of EVO jumping in the Switzer thread about 900 on stock rods
And for the record, like Scott, I think EVOMS is doing amazing things and leading the advancement of this market and Joe's car is the one to beat. I would not hesitate to use EVOMS products (I have used and currently have EVOMS stuff on my car) or have them do a build for me when the time/money is right also. I am waiting for details on their motor build and their exchange program as well. :) |

The owner of EVOMS doesn't have to jump into the other non-EVOMS threads.... his top customers always do it for him ;)

Whew, I though you were referring to me but since I was the slowest of the big EVOMS builds at the mile I can hardly be considered a "top" customer. I hope to get there someday though. I will admit that Topgun and Joe get on my nerves sometimes as well:)

thanks for the background. quite possibly the damage had already been done due to the stock fuel system. how many miles did you put on the car so far with the GT30 setup?

500 miles? 1000 miles? 2000 miles? it is just difficult for me to believe that since you went with the EVOMS GT30 package and drove it "not long enough", that all of a sudden the rods have seen so much stress due to the added hp and tq that the rods have bent, cracked, etc. That seems to be EVOMS "theory" in your particular case. If that is indeed still EVOMS position, then ALL rods should fail when driven "not long enough".
We are simply trying to get all the facts and entire story to see if there may have been another reason why the rods failed as opposed to what EVOMS theory is claiming that the 680 hp and 650 tq was just too much for the stock rods to handle. Any ways, good luck with your build. Better Idea....Send me one and fly out, ill take you out for a bit of street racing and we can run it threw the paces. |

You both have awesome cars. Expect a bill from my wife. She is under the impression that my trip to the mile has influenced me in a bad way. |

When I started my build 20 years ago, I went with internals before my car ended up at Evoms...It's what I wanted :)....If I wanted to be the fastest I would got 35..(top Dog). It's not an Evoms thing...If you want to run big power you need at least rods, Evoms, Proto, BBI, ETC.....IMO |

you know, Joe never gets involved in any threads unless directly asked questions, don't go blaming him just because you and Tom had weak rods :D |
