it's been almost 9months
feb 16 09 i suffered a stroke, lost the use of my left arm and leg, things were very dim even after the docs said i would make a full recovery.
well here it is 9 months later am walking( no cain ) driving the car with no probs (even with the racing clutch) the left arm is working well . am very happy with my progress here's what happened am in the hosp my son shows up with a lap top and we sign into 6, i tellen ya you guys kept me alive those hosp. days and nites. typing was very hard . but good for my recovery. at that time i new i was gonna live but was not to sure about ever driving the p car as my left foot felt like a noodel as did my arm..was very sure golf was out of the question, hell i figured i would never be able to take my wife to a show..(ok i still can't type or spell) anyway heres the deal the recovery has still left me with a slight limp but it get better each day mu left arm is still weak but i think only noticeable to me. most people can't believe i've had a stroke.... so here the deal READ THIS REALLY 1.WATCH YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE 2.KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS i can't believe how much i have learned the last 9 months but believe i wish i had done what i'm asking you guys to CHECK YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE |
Steve, you are having a fantastic recovery. And you make a great point - no matter WHAT your age, get your BP under control! I started learning about this after watching my Dad have TIAs, then a stroke, then seizure. Keep pushing your PT!

You are a Lucky man to have family by your side.
Be well :). |
Your story is amazing! I'd like to share another... a good friend who is active in sports felt a little woozy playing basketball one night recently. Knowing he had slightly elevated cholesterol and knowing this feeling wasn't right he went in for tests. During his stress test nothing showed up and they were 4mins over the time for his age group. He told them to crank it up rather than stop - 30 seconds later he nearly passed out. The signs they saw told them he had BIG problems at that point. Subsequent testing revealed a 100% blockage! His only reason for being alive was that his sports activity had slowly conditioned his heart to reroute around the impending blockage and when it finally went 100% he felt it and got help. NO heart damage, no stroke. They put in two medicated stints and he's on blood thinners. He should be dead!
This was a guy who was NOT overweight and was active, he's also young and mostly watches his diet. Unlike Steve this wasn't blood pressure but apparently Cholesterol. His numbers were LOWER than mine and he's in better shape - gah! My friend got off very lucky and doesn't have the battle Steve has had, he should also be quite dead. Steve, I'd echo what Kerry said - keep pushing the PT bigtime! A friend of mine years ago had a fall and blew off the PT. he now has a permanent limp because he was too proud to go through the pain. You've made huge strides it seems but you still recognize a little weakness. You're doing well, please keep up the PT! |
pro blk and blue thanks for your thoughts pt will go on!! ofcourse golf helps hopefully it will become less painful to play... my real reason for this post was to warn everyone and to thank them for their support during those months of recovery , thanks once more steve

great recovery Steve, its amazing what you can do when you really set your mind to something
i would like to add that most people change diet etc after an event like this, they have great intentions and make an effort for few months but then lapse back into the old lifestyle, a colleague of mine did exactly that and it cost him dearly |
Steve great to see the confidence in your typing, great tips about the BP & great to hear your life is improving daily. Thanks for the heads up.

Great to hear you are improving, Steve!
I eat waaaaay too much but I do cardio at at least 80% of Vo2 max for 30 minutes 3 times a week, primarily so I stay in good enough shape to pimp hand the Walnut when he needs it (which is often). |

I'm turning 40 this year, and I don't think this can continue much longer. Anyway, Steve, thanks for reminding us to take care of ourselves. Life is short, and you gotta live everyday, but we should live responsibly. Jonn |
Excellent progress Steve, well done! I'm happy you've made such a good recovery.
Here's another tip I got from my g/f who's an MD. Do not eat the stuff that isn't butter that comes in the tub. Your body doesn't know what to do with it and it ends up lining the insides of your blood vessels. When you're at rest your bp is completely fine. However once you start working hard and your heart rate and blood pressure rise well, a good example is; it's like putting your finger over the end of the garden hose. Your blood pressure goes up exponentially plus there's the possibility of little pieces of this " lining" breaking off and causing a blockage leading to major damage. |
glad your okay and able to drive that beautiful car.
We only live once and are not alive on this earth for an eternity, it is my philosophy to make the best use of what little time we have and enjoy your life and do what makes you happy often. William wish you all the best of luck. |
Great story and may God Bless you through this recovery.
