997T Illuminated Door Sills Installed in 996T
I found a set of new 997 Turbo Illuminated door sills on ebay for $250 and snapped them up. I knew from a visit to my dealer and checking the door sills on my 996 Turbo and a 997 Turbo they had in stock that they looked identical. Sure enough, it was a perfect fit and I tied the wiring to the foot well light wiring and they look great.
I also added a mercedes style mesh net on each side of the foot well and it works great to hold misc. things such as kleenex boxes or other items when travelling. There is a photo of that as well.

Here are some night shots. The Turbo logo lights up each time the door is open and goes out when the door is closed. The wiring is super simple. Just run the wires under the carpet edge inside the car and connect it to the foot well light. The wires are hidden under the carpet.
The kit comes with all sorts of extra wiring and the instructions say to connect the wiring into the courtesy door light in the door panel. This requires way too much work and it is super easy to connect to the foot well courtesy lights.
When you open the door, it looks fantastic, day or night and everyone comments on how nice it looks. It really fits with the high end aspect of this car and should have been included from the factory (I guess now it is with the 997T as an option).
The photos above were taken in full sunlight with flash also shining off the stainless steel and you can see the logo is very well lit up. It is super bright Electro Luminescent lighting.

I installed them myself. The wiring was easy to connect to the footwell lights and hide under the carpet. I just used a heat gun to slowly remove the old sill plates (they are attached with two sided tape and are hard to remove. Just go slow but know that they will be ruined in the removal). Then use a plastic trim removal tool to lift the old sill plate as you heat it and it eventually comes off.
