The TT IS an AWD GT2. Why not buy what you want to begin with?

I'd put myself in the same boat as you. The fact that the 996TT had AWD was extremely appealing to me, but I now see that the system itself is pretty archaic and doesn't actually transfer power as well as many modern systems.

The flip side to this is that it still puts down the power very well to the rear wheels due to the engine layout, and I'm not likely to drive the car in truly slippery conditions regardless. That, and the temptation of saving 70 pounds by performing a RWD conversion (one day) sounds pretty tantalizing too.
