If you have a program that takes advantage of the extra octane, you will love it! Race gas programs give you 5-10% more hp and torque. I only run MS-109. It also gives you some safety insurance against getting bad gas and causing damage to your engine.

Not cheap - I think it was in the mid $600's, plus delivery. WA state has some outrageous fuel taxes, 3rd highest in the nation, but we have no state income tax.

How long is fuel considered "fresh?"

I figured I'd get 3+ DE days out of a drum. That means at most 3 months. Is that too long?

I have been told after 1 or 2 weeks the octane starts going down.

Makes no sence to buy the 5 gal drums if you can buy the55 gal drum, unless you like paying double.

I get the 5 gal because of space issues. We pay $65 per 5 gal drum.

I would not worry. I use a 54 gal can for 1-2 months with no ill effects. I have been buying this fuel for years. As long as you seal can properly after each use you will be fine.

I guess we're lucky....we have a VP Race Fuels gas station about 2 miles from the shop. They've got every VP fuel available. Just drive up and pump right into the car, just like any other gas station.

typically gasoline in cars looses one octane point every 2 weeks. But 10 octane points equals one octane number. So if you have 93 octane it will take it 5 months to drop to 92 octane assuming you loose one point every 2 weeks. Of course temp, container seal etc all plays into it. It could loose one point every month which would double life. So unless your fuel has been sitting for a year or so or you are on the ragged edge of tuning it is not to bad since most of us will use a tank of gas a month, heck I use it every two weeks.
