I use cheap street tires from Sumitomo...not the best but it does the job. I was at Autobanh CC for the Audi club DE it was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to going to Road America this year.
I plan on doing a few Gingerman test tune days this year...we can meet later for sure. |

Buddy G, do this for me, add these links in the original post so that people that come to the section, who will inevitably look for these things can find them and we won't need too many stickies for them. Most of the stuff you've said already has a thread dedicated to those very things. Maybe the original post can be a portal to the rest of the useful stuff. It will be too hard to keep track of everything in one thread IMO.
Lap times thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-gt2/108848-lap-times-thread.html Weight Reduction Thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-gt2/71489-official-turbo-weight-loss-thread-lightest-turbo-list.html I would put the brake thread, but Mike deleted all his posts rendering it useless. |

I have been doing DE for 11 yrs. never in the 996t, in my '00 S4
Glen, VIR, NJMP- Thunderbolt, Summit Point Main and Shenandoah, all Great tracks. Summit and NJMP also have arrive and drive karts that are fun as well. Accomidations- Nothing on track site for Glen and Summit. VIR and NJMP have first rate places. If you can stay at the garage townhomes where your balcony is right on the track. VIR garage suites are also "on" the track with garage beneath.
I use Michellin Sport Cups - R compound, awesome and streetable. Use a track brake pad! Pick your closest track, start SLOW and Smooth, speed comes in time. The driver makes the car fast, My S4 and I have passed a F360, Vipers, Zo6's...I have been passed by much slower cars with much better drivers. It's not a race, have fun. |

I plan on doing a few Gingerman test tune days this year...we can meet later for sure. You would be amazed at what a good track tire would do for your times! Also having some harnesses will make it more fun as well because you won't be trying to hold onto the steering wheel to keep your butt in the seat! hilarious |
My Latest setup, and the best so far by quite a margin.
I have been slowly working on my suspension setup over the last few months.. Using Laguna Seca as my test track, I have been trying to get the handling as perfect as possible, by changing one setting at a time and then comparing lap times and notes about the previous settings...
This is my latest and by far my best setup to date... obviously, I am more track focused than most, but it still works well on the street. My latest setup: Front camber -2.8 1/16th toe out 7.8 degrees caster Rear camber -2.4 1/16th toe in Ride height: 105 mm (4.13") (measured floor to the correct underside bolts, not to wheelarches) Front 125 mm (4.92") (measured floor to the correct underside bolts, not to wheelarches) Rear Corner Balanced with 200 lbs in driver's seat. The Car turns in much better now.. The front end has improved grip and has less power on understeer in uphill corners.. The best setup I have tried so far by quite a bit. I am VERY, VERY happy with this setup. |

I destroyed a set of Sumi's last year - and my car was stock. Can't image what you would do to them running all that horse power on a hot summer day. I will never run them again. These tires have a couple thousand miles on them.

Cheers// Let us know how they turn out for you. |
Yep,
I had them heat cycled already so I should be good to go. I hope they will hook up better than my Pilot Sport Cups because the last time I ran them at this track I was spinning in 2nd gear out of several corners! hilarious |
BuddyG - what size Hoosiers are you running?
|
P225/40ZR -18 Hoosier R6
P295/30ZR -18 Hoosier R6 |
To those using R6 Hoosiers, have you tried their actual race tires? I was thinking of getting a set to try at the track this year, I have run Michelin slicks in the past. Any thoughts?
