PSS9's
Pss9's have a prescribed "ride height"
It is in black and white in the instructons for installation, adhere to this and you shouldnt have any problems with bottoming out, wierd handling etc. Peace Jay Putnam:) |
Jay thanks for taking the time this morning to share your knowledge and insight concerning proper PSS-9 installation with me over the phone. I realize that your time is valuable and your genorosity to discuss this issue at length clearly demonstrates your passion for Porsche tuning.
PSS-9's are indeed a fine suspension as long as the car (especially AWD versions) are not too aggressively lowered. As discussed, metal on metal (or aluminum) contact is not a good thing.;) Thanks again Jay. |

I have never had any handling problems, noise problems, etc. and I would say I am pretty low :D

Evan,
My experience with the handling irregularities occurred at extreme driving limits. As I pointed out in one of my "other" threads, the craziest time was while running approximately 120 mph in a turn with a downhill approach to the apex and an uphill exit from the apex. It was a long radius turn with some bumps in the middle. The car is loading up the outside corners of the car and the bumps mid-turn were enough to jamb the suspension into the non-linear elastic region of the bump stop. The car's weight/momentum/centrifugal force is wanting to compress the suspension but the bump stops, after the presumed remaining compression travel is gone, prevent any further compression, now, other things "give". This results in a non-linear response and causes a sudden change in "character" of the car. This is why my friend, driving behind me (Jeromy from PES Tuning) said it looks like my car was going to spin out of control. These irregularities are only evident when the car is pushed hard in corners at or near the limits with PSS-9's dropped to GT2 spec ride height. Us 6Pack folk tend(ed) to get a little crazy out there and that is why these things surfaced. If one were to drive normally, at or near the posted limit, in a straight line (Florida folk ;) ) and not approaching the cornering limits (drifting or oversteer, etc.), they probably wouldn't notice a thing. Just my $0.02. |

Hey Ken,
Sorry us souther folk don't hit too many downhill 120MPH turns on I-95 :D I hear what you are saying though and its good to know, but for the majority of the people buying PSS9s to slam their car they will never notice (as I haven't :D). 15 mm above GT-2 specs is perfect handling at extremes for the AWD TT : track and street.

You clearly need to re-evaluate your situation.
If you dont follow the reccomended ride height settings, you will drastically increase the chance that you are going to upset your suspension during extremes in cornering, braking, accelleration or a combination of the above. If you want to "agressively" lower your car without trouble while driving like a madman ( I assume your were describing a Lime Rock DE event ) I suggest you choose a more appropriate shock/spring combo. Also for those of you wishing to run a GT2 ride height I suggest you run a GT2 suspension or its equal. |

Evan BTW-DE?? Thats how Ken drives on the street :D |

Perhaps they've improved them. |
recommended height was a bit too low for my lip...raised it a bit on mine (see sig)
