18G's too slow......now what?
Hi guys,
New to the forum. great resource....thank you. 18G's, tune, 5FPR, GT2 clutch & exhaust on 02 996TT. Thrill has worn off. Now what with out breaking the bank?? Street DD only no track. best, jane |
Welcome! I would focus on supporting mods -namely injectors, intercoolers (do your homework here) & a retune with more boost. If you're willing to run race gas or water/meth injection you could see substantial gains there as well. The GT2 clutch may not suffice though. You can go a long ways with 18gs.

that's good of you to reply earl3...thank you.
limited to CA 91 unfortunately. running 1.2 bar which is pushing stock plumbing and injectors as i understand. jane |
Meth kit

Meth kit, ic's, 60lb injectors, and ebc for more boost and your good to go.

I was in your shoes not to long ago. I went big boy (Ski850GT) with my new setup but I wonder how my car would have felt if I had changed everything except the 18g. The 18gs are really just an outstanding turbo. So, Y-pipe, 4.5 in Bell Core intercoolers, Ford MAF, fender intakes. external bov (which you could probably skip), 3 inch X flow exhaust, 60 lb injectors, secondary fuel pump. You wouldn't need new headers just use yours or have them lightly ported like I did. I'm guessing this at 1.5 bar would really wake up your car quiet a bit. Also another option you may consider is moveing up from the 18g to the 20g with all of your supporting mods. Talk to Todd Knighton and Markski to see what they think.

If you go this route, I woudl definitely recommend adding injectors. |
I was just going to say the same; but Prius will break the bank, do a Geo Metro.

Buy a Prius and drive it for two months every time you feel like your car is slow...It WILL be cheaper in the long run.

Thanks |
leave your cc# on their VM, they'll call you back....lol

Injectors, intercooler, y-pipe, turbo intake tubes, re-tune.

+1 That's a good advice. |
Injectors, Intercoolers, plumbing, tune and a ebc for so you can use race gas and take advantage of tuning more boost. if you do the plumbing then a 20g ported and polished with the clipped turbine wheel...
We've had really good success.... |

Street DD only no track. best, jane the rest i would do as mark from 911 tuning said .i know where your coming from lol , only i went from k24s, to 18s, 20s, to marks setup now. also, i would deffinately get meth inj. kit ,make sure it is installed right and tuned right for it , then you bumb the boost up , it will be like running race gas every time without breaking the bank. |
I'd add a modified version of this setup to the car if you want best bang for the buck!
