I'm considering......
I love my 996TT but.... I had quite a bit of work done to it and it is putting out an estimated 550 RWHP. Suspension was lowered and rebuilt and all that good stuff. All the work was done by Akram @ Motorwerks in Houston. The problem I am having with it is that is just frikkin scary! When the mod'd turbos kick in and the sound goes from droning to buzz saw, it kind of freaks me out. I like fast but this seems almost uncontrollable.
I test drove a new C2S the other day with a PDK and while it was not as fast the acceleration was so much smoother. It was quite pleasurable. Also my Merc SL63 seems more pleasurable. Again, not as fast but fast enough. So I am not sure why I am posting this other than to maybe get opinions or for someone to share an experience of a similar situation, what they did, and how they liked the outcome. Maybe this should be a poll and we could measure how many responses I get saying, don't be a pu$$y, man up! as opposed to, Yea they are not for everyone.... I think I will post this same thing in the non-turbo section and it will be interesting to see the difference in responses. |
Props for having the balls to admit you don't have the balls.
(sorry, being funny at your expense...) So seriously, not everyone want the same visceral driving experience... sell it, buy something else more comported. A |
Can't you install a boost controller and dial it down for normal everyday driving? Then when you want that urge, you can dial it back up? There's never too much power. You are a rare breed wondering if you will be happier with less power, but I think most people will settle for less and want more.

LOL @ ard ...its the daily driving. I can't keep my foot out of it. Its not unusual for me to be going 100-120 MPH on the way to work and feeling damn fine about it and in control. But all it takes is one person who does not see me coming and that can be a hell of a "oops"! As well as this baby handles and as much as I feel in control, for a DD, OMG what if I hurt someone. Surely I am not the only one who has considered the consequences of driving fast on public roads. I could keep it as strictly a track car. But I have ye to track it. I did not want to track during the summer heat. There is a track around 20 miles from where I work. If I head out there I think there is a good chance I will get addicted!!!!
Yea, I could probably tune it down and then tune it back up.... And my biggest concern is that in the long run I will miss the power. Seller's remorse. |

Also if traction is an issue then look into the Toyo R888...you will be very pleased. |
Buy a Prius!
|
so you bought a TT put a bunch of money in it to make it faster and etc and now you realize it's too much for you? hmm ya good luck.

Have the boost staged so it wont hit so hard. Its not for all. I have had passengers telling me they have super fast cars or been in and all the BS and when you mash the gas and get up to 2xxmph in 2x seconds they shxt their pants. I want to set up the video cam to catch it one day. lol. I am sure you all have experienced this to some degree.. But have the boost staged to bring in in easier you will enjoy it more and will most likely get use to it and slowly start turning it up when you feel that you are comfortable.

So did you have your car converted to rear wheel drive (since you mention rwhp)? Put it back to AWD, less scary!
|
I agree with the OP about the car being scary, to the point that I also test drove a GT3 since its power curve is different and a little more controllable. When people ride in my car for the first time and I punch it, they nearly wet there pants and then complain of "floaters" in their eyes!!! On top of that, the first gear is nearly worthless. When I punch it, the car is almost at redline before I can even get into the clutch and shift into second. I guess I'm a wimp also...
My ideal car, note the MY in this, would be a '11 GT3 RS with PDK, which I know is impossible. Let the flaming begin!!! I've even considered getting the new "GTS" with PDK and then putting all the GT3 stuff on it. The $$$'s go up to what a new turbo would be, so I turn rational and just drive mine. John |
Maybe riding in a 700 or 800hp TT would help?
|
Does the color yellow make you feel sad?
|
Well why don't we chug on over to Manby Panby land where we could get some self confidence for you ya Jack Wagon!
|
Tissue...ahhhhh
|
I have the cheap commuter car with HOV stickers (ability to go in car pool lane on my own) then on Fridays and weekends it's the turbo... I don't think I could ever sell this thing. Too much damn fun, and taking these to the track is VERY addictive... I think about it far too much!
