I am close to buying a 997 GT3. Please let me know if there are any good shop other than Switzer. I love Switzer but they are 2 hrs away from the dealer.

Thanks in Advance

I live in a suburb of Cleveland and am fairly active in the PCA club based out of the Columbus area. Although I have never used them, Auto Assets (sorry, dont have the number) has a pretty good reputation.

I use an indy in Twinsburg ohio (east side of Cleveland) called Steinels Autowerks. Top notch place, and they work on many many 997 GT3 track cars. Call the owner, Eric Steinel. He is a class act and will probably recommend some good shops in that area. 330-425-8582

Steinels just rebuilt my transmission, and did a very nice job. Top notch shop for Porsche.

Duff0000, are you active in any of the local clubs? Just bought my TT this spring and am looking to get a ride in a local TT to compare cabin noise to mine. My car is completely stock X50 with a tip. On long trips, the road/engine noise becomes excessive, to the point we dont want to take the car on trips lasting over a few hours. I had a PPI completed before I bought the car, and had Steinels go over it after it arrived. Buying new tires helped a little, but not much. When spring time comes, I'd like to look you up and go for a ride.

Hey grayman, I will get my car out in march, let me know if you want to get a ride, or head up to one of Cleveland C&Cs.

Thanks Tvurt. I'll take you up on that for no other reason but to get a ride in a modded TT. She must be a beast. Probably louder than my stock X50

Loud at WOT, but pretty tame at cruise. Cabin noise should be pretty comparable, if I lug it at about 45 in 6th on sr18 somewhere.

I'd put money on it that you have at least one bad wheel bearing. Does the noise go away when you put the car in neutral on the highway? If not, wheel bearing!

They seem to be difficult to diagnose by moving the wheel, I had a bad front at 22k miles.

Replace all 4.

Thanks for the good idea. No, I have never put the car in neutral on the highway. I will try that whenever the glaciers leave cleveland. I really expected the 996TT to be a quiet car, at least in stock form. I love it otherwise. You're probably right about the difficult diagnoses as well. The car came to me with 31K miles spring of 2010, and now had just under 38K miles. I guess in addition to the oil change and spring checkup, the car will be getting 4 new sets of wheelbearings.

With 3 Pcars to take care of, pretty soon, there is going to be a "Grayman" wing at Steinels Autowerks

Thanks again

Tom, Mike,

Outstanding, I am always up for group drives. Most of our friends in the Pcar club are either hard core track/autocross junkies or showcar weenies. Group dinner/sunday drives seem to have fallen out of vogue in this area.

As soon as I get enough general posts under my belt, I'll pm you guys.

Ed Pimm @ EPR works on Porsches at a great rate. He's located just outside of Dublin OH. He's always done a great job on my 986 and 996.
