Oh good, another notch in the reputation of Porsche owners...

Story goes guy's first ever track event (Dubwars) and he is told to run in the beginner session and ends up deciding to run in "expert" and says to someone "hope those VWs don't get in the way".

Then does this.

Cars are nothing without a good driver. Buying a car doesn't buy you any skill whatsoever.

damn... well I was down to go to that event, since I like Buttonwillow but ended up not going, even though my name was on the list... Looks like they were going anti clockwise and that guy tried to be a hero on that last right hander before hitting the final straight. That's one of only two bad spots on that track and before you go out there you are told to just let the car go if you get squirly on that corner. Trying to correct yourself on that one usually ends up in you hitting the wall. I saw 3 S2000s do exactly that last time out Sux to be him...

PS Lucky for him they finally put some tires along that wall. Last time out there weren't any....

PPS I don't know why he would go into the advanced group. That's kinda silly.

After autocrossing for several years, I did my first DE at Laguna Seca and put my self in the intermediate group - for one session. I couldn't wait to jump back to the novice group. Nothing like seeing 4-5 people closing on you at 50 mph to make your realize your lack of experience.

Back in 1997 when I had my first Porsche a 993 turbo I took it to the track and thought I was "The Man". 400 horsepower get out of my way. After spinning my car numerous times (no contact thank goodness) and being out driven by lesser cars I finally realized the car is nothing without a driver.

After many DE's with good instruction, 8 days at Skip Barber and many skippy race weekends as well as racing stock cars for 2 years, I finally think I am a DECENT driver still not great!

If you want to go fast, learn how to drive!

I do have to add, that I'm reposting this from another board so the "story" is 3rd hand.

No idea if it's true.

I saw this exact same thing happen last time I was at buttonwillow...guy in a Mustang was exiting Sunrise turn onto the main straight and got WAY behind the car when the tail stepped out and ended up pirouetting into the inside wall.

Typically people go wide into the dirt and recover...hitting the inside wall requires some effort.

One story now has it that the owner of this car "lent" it to someone who crashed it so who knows the real story.

Unfortunately a lot of people have a lot of money and no talent. You can take one of the best cars in the world and put it on the track but with out a driver it is just another car in the way. What club would let someone in an advanced level without a check out ride?
