My friend's new M3 SMG with 1200 miles just died at the dealer. The computer crashed. Can't start the car. They have to wait a week for a new computer file that's keyed to the VIN from Germany.

are you guys sure about that? From what I've read about the car, M5 buyers don't have the option of buying it with a manual transmission. The reason being that BMW wanted to keep the transmission light and compact. The result would be a shift gate pattern in the form of 2 - 6 - 5 - R across the top and 4 - 7 - 3 - 1. Hence, SMG was the next best thing.
