Is this right? 335i vs Porsche 996 GT2

Just curious, but can a 335i stage 3 really outrun a GT2 like that?

Even if it is true, I'd still want the gt2. 335i blah, run of the mill car. I saw an episode of hot rod tv where they raced a chevette against a corvette. The chevette kicked its ass but they also installed a 400 big block that they got out of a scrap yard. would you own the chevette? Probably not.
Can't beat the look of a gt2. Unless its an aventador, but maybe that's to much attention:)

I wouldn't be surprised if the gt2 were stock vs a modded x35i. My 135i was nuts. A tuned gt2 would be a different story.

Owning both of them and racing many others that will be very hard to believe.
When I was stock I raced some stage3+meth 335i coupe and limo and after 110mph I was pulling slowly 2-3 cars to 150-160 mph. This kind of races start from 50 mph to 150 mph.

Ok, let's consider that the 335i pushed the limits a bit, normally 8 psi stock, modded is like 10-12 psi, and stage3+meth street setup like 16 psi even 17 psi, There are some guys running on race gas + meth and pushing timing to 18 or even 19-20 psi. There were some engine failures at@20psi pressure but...

I raced against a 17 psi car stage 3+meth no WR 95 octane, cold weather, no traction problems for any of us.

I own a convertible with some weigh reduction, around 300 lbs over coupe/limo but also upgraded turbos that put down 25 mustang rwhp more @ only 18 psi. These turbos allow me to run more boost compared to tiny stock mitsubishi td03 turbos, on race gas I was even with the coupe/limo guys with 25 rwhp less.

335i is another kind of animal, looks more like a NA car, stars pulling from 2K rpm range but dies quickly on top.

So that is possible, but very very very hard to achieve for 335i, after tune+exhaust & 5 bar I crashed them all from the very beginning.

i realy dont know what mods done at this 335i ...but to outrun a stock gt2 like this video show, it was to quiet and smooth in this 335i....may be driving skill was the reason

and be shure if a 335i is able to outrun a gt2 you have to pay more as you like....and you need a lot magic for traction at the 335i

stage3 for 335i means

down pipes 3" or 2.5" cat less - 300$ to 700$
exhaust - 0$ to 2500$ (not really required)
intake - air filter 100$, Intercooler upgrade 300-1000$, charge pipe for meth 100$
TUNE - piggy most of them or flash > 500$

add meth (300-700$) to this and you have a more or at least 350 whp (mustang) car.

best 1/4 for a stock turbo 335i is like 11.5 @ 125 (aprox) but with lower 60ft than we use to see for 996tt, 1.6-1.7xx

as 60-130 there is a 6.95 on NOS, stock turbos, stage 3 + meth. another 7.5-8s for upgraded turbos, but as far as stock turbos we can see low 9s with some weight reduction, and that is faster I think than gt2's 60-130. But to get that will need to push the limits a lot as i told you. Normal 60-130 for stage3 is 10-10.5s, do the math, I dont know stock gt2 time.

As traction, 335i turbos don't hit like gt2 they are smooth that's why on good grip roads and good tires ( some are using 275/285 on rears), there are no major problems, most of stage3 guys are installing also LSD.

335i coupe/limo weight is 1600-1650 KG so GT2 has some weight advantage too beside some hp. Torque curve is at same levels starting very low, this might be 335i advantage

Add NOX, overdrive the supercharger, bigger intercooler, meth cooling, 100 octane VR with the proper tune and a Mini Cooper Werks S will outrun just about anything stock. Any comparison is meaningless highly modified vs stock. The big issue is that a highly modded motor pushed to the limit will not stay together long.

Not so sure thats a GT2......I see red brake calipers.

No chance for 335i stage III vs GT2 rolling run. I don't care whats done to it, sorry to sound obnoxious.

Christian 12-16-2011 08:02 PM

who cares, anything can be made fast. nobody in there right mind would take a 335i over a gt2

Agreed. Coming from someone who is familiar with tuned N54 cars, even a heavily modified 335i is not going to walk away from a stock GT2 like that. That GT2 has boost issues.

Nikolas 12-16-2011 09:29 PM

I had a 335xi for three years. They are fast, but pretty benign to drive. Mine was stock and it was no where near my stock tt. I can't imagine that it would be that fast on a roll with a GT2. Heck even the modded ones are lucky to trap at the same speed as a stock GT2. I call BS on the run.

sideWays_swe 12-17-2011 01:15 AM

That is a turbo with gt2 styling. It is NOT a GT2

rdss 12-17-2011 08:50 AM

I think that vid has a problem........the "GT2" should had put reverse and pull backward so in that way that vid would be amazing hilarioushilarious
