How many G's??
 

I recently saw the advertisement for the new Epcot Mission Space ride wherein they put you in a centrifuge and it simulates 2G's during space travel I think. Looks like a really cool ride!
It got me thinking. How many G's does a Stage 4 pull during maximum acceleration?
I would think somebody has one of those G-meter gizmos and can answer this one right away.
Nonetheless, it is pretty funny that I started equating the excitement of accelerating a Stage 4 car with ........an amusement ride!!!

I don't have my system hooked up yet but you would be real lucky to get close to even 1 g in acceleration. .6 or .7 would be my guess.

I have an early model GTech Pro. ColorChange's guestimate sounds about right. Anybody is welcome to borrow it - it'd probably be happy to get out of the glove box.

FWIW, the original GTech like the one I have, stank. It needed to be placed perfectly level to get good readings. To get lateral G, you had to rotate the unit 90 degrees. Flakey.

My understanding (could be wrong) is that the new GTech doesn't have these issues. Tesla was nice enough to give the new one with multiple accelerometers, so with that, leveling isn't necessary (flashbacks of vectors).

So what is your overall opinion of the unit?? Even tho you have the old one, I have never spoke to anyone about it...how accurate do you think the 0-60, 1/4, etc. times are??

I've looked at the specs of the new one, and I'd buy it, even though I wasn't happy with the first generation. The new unit is far more capable and given its multiple accelerometers, won't be subject to the shortcomings of the old unit.

It should be fairly accurate for timing. Since it senses acceleration and measures it over time, in theory it should be able to interpolate speed and distance with a very good degree of accuracy.

Now for it's RWHP estimate, I wouldn't bank on that. :)

Get one. The price will be more than worth the entertainment.

Get the GTech Pro Competition unit, not the plain-vanilla one (that's the one I have).

The original G-Tech Pro was a steaming piece of crap. Intesting in concept, but so user-unfriendly it only made it out of the glove box once. The NEW G-Tech Pro Competition is a real treat and very easy to use. Not all this getting it perfectly level or inputting a bunch of data every time you want to use it. In fact it can store multiple runs and specific data for up to 4 different vehicles. Data is easily uploaded to 'puter for viewing and compairing ass well as some limited charting capabilities on the large LCD dispay on the unit itself.

Regarding G's on accelleration (better with numbers than letters!) here's a chart of 4 runs with a stock /02 TT. It is critical that the weight be entered in the unit correctly for ALL measurements to be correct. I am using 3595 lbs and am not sure if it's correct or not. So take my results with a grain of salt. (what is the correct number including: aerokit & full carbon fiber interior)

For what it's worth, a constant 1 G acceleration over the
1/4 mile from a standing start will take about 9 seconds.

I have a Gtech which is about 2 years old, it seems to work quite well. The literature claims +/- .1 sec on acceleration times.

Only used it in the '87 Buick GNX on cold mornings for about a 4.9 sec 0-60, totally stock. The best I could get the TT was 4.6 to sixty.

I have the G-Tech from Passport and I also can't get good times. I believe mine is slower than actual for some reason.

A friend of mine took it to the track and compared it with his slips...about a second slower even with proper calibration, level surface, actual weight plugged in...not sure.

Looks like folks here are getting slower times too :(

Looks like there's some consensus forming that the original unit is steaming crap. :) Thanks to Zippy for helping illustrate why the Competition unit is 1000x better.

Ken, HP engineered the Mission: Space ride at Epcot... I 'tested' it out when I was down there (that was during the last 6speedonlin east coast meet in September). One word: rediculous. I'm physically fit and have a strong stomach, but this was a true test. It felt so real it was unbelievable. I was legitimately nauseous.

Thanks everyone for opinions on the Gtech Pro Comp. I will be picking one up as soon as I can rap up $250 bux...
