Anyone use an alcantara steering wheel?

I am going to pick up one of the DCTMS T96 Sport steering wheels for my car. They offer it in leather or alcantara. I have never tried an alcantara wheel and am wondering what the advantage is? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Troy

I like the look and feel of Alcantara. No other real benefit; maybe a little more grip if you have sweaty hands :)

Yeah, I had to get a Tip this time! I broke my neck awhile back and my left leg is a little slow now! I found when driving a manual I would ride the clutch and just can't shift as fast as I used to!

I was always one of the guys yelling "Why the hell would anyone get a Tip" Lol! Now I am glad Porsche offered it. hilarious

I have an alcantara steering and brake lever/shift knob and love them. I receive a lot of compliments on them too.

certainly, no shame in that ;) i only asked because the paddles on that thing looked like some serious f1 kinda stuff which would be a vast improvement over those clumsy buttons, provided it works :p good luck with it!

I imagine there are different quality grades but a well done interior in Alcantara is beautiful. Lancia used to offer it (or still does?) in some of their cars; absolutely gorgeous!

I've had a Momo alcantara steering wheel before, I don't think there's any "performance" benefit over leather, it's just a different look. I would only get alcantara if the rest of the interior was alcantara to match, seats, dash, etc.

Agreed, just the steering wheel only will look weird.

I'm using one with paddle shift and I like it very much. Your hands don't get burn during Summer and you don't need to wear driving driving gloves to get good grip.

Thanks for the input guys! :)

I think I am going to go with black leather to match the interior. Let me ask you guys this....My car is arctic silver and I thought about going with silver stitching. I am kind of on the fence though because there aren't many silver trim pieces in my car. Do you guys think this would look funny?

FI_FTW 08-04-2012 12:52 AM

You can always add some silver trim pieces later. It think it would be subtle enough that it wouldn't look weird.

How's the wear and tear on your steering wheel after a couple of years?
Thanks

I had my wheels re done in leather and alcantara a while ago , I also had some extra padding added gives a much better feel.
