License Plate LEDs Installed (90% of you won't care for it)
*** USELESS MOD WARNING *** :D
So I always like to modernize the 996 when I can with small details that work, and work properly. The reason I did this was because I had the car parked the other night next to my X5 35d and obviously the lights in general look stone-age in comparison. The license plate area just look so dim and crappy. I've at least updated most of the bulbs on the car. (Now if we could get some LED tails for Widebody, another story). I never did the plate because I've had nothing but problems when installing festoon-style LEDs. I started to look around for full replacements of the LED plate light. I ended up looking around on eBay and found exactly what I wanted. Under $32 shipped for the pair. I asked the seller to make sure that they weren't universal units and wouldn't cause any errors, etc. He confirmed and I went ahead and purchased them. They came in 3 days later. http://www.ebay.com/itm/170938013760 So today I finally installed them. Installation was pretty simple. Each light is secured by two phillips-head screws. Once you unscrew them you just have to pull it down with a little force. The unit is basically 3 pieces, a plastic gasket, a rubber cover, and the actual light assembly. Once you unsleeve the pieces from the assembly you will see the two wires, pos/neg in red/white with flat contact heads. Pull and they come right out. Then just do everything in reverse. Just sharing in case anyone wanted to do it. :D http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/1llp996.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/2llp996.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/3llp996.jpghttp://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/4llp996.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/5llp996.jpghttp://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/6llp996.jpghttp://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/7llp996.jpghttp://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/8llp996.jpghttp://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rc/9llp996.jpghttp://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...c/10llp996.jpg |

Glad you guys found this thread useful. I finally got into the car tonight and the lighting in the back is fantastic. My brother was with me who didn't know I had installed them and he says holy crap that makes the car looks so much newer. I agree. Best $30 mod in a long time.
I tried to get some decent looking pics. If you guys wants something more specific let me know. Sorry, the car is truly filthy lol. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...c/IMG_0464.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...c/IMG_0465.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...c/IMG_0466.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...c/IMG_0467.jpg |

I'm impressed and have been meaning to buy a set myself. I do agree that they do update the car a lot and I look forward to getting a set. :)
