996 TT OEM Exhaust

what is inside the center section, nothing right, is it worth joining the exhaust gas flow like an X pipe ?

Piping is small diameter.. Other ways to open system up for more flow.

Do the free mod which has been dyno proven to make a decent power increase and add a nice exhaust tone.

swproturbo is on a distinguished road
I did the TJW exhaust mod for $20 worth of tools when I had my 996tt. Best mod money ever spent. Quickened spool up and gave it a nice sound.

So you found it... I've understood that you have problems with Swiss authorities over aftermarket exhausts, right?
If that being the case I have a solution for you. While it's not a perfect one, it'll open up OEM exhaust a lot and looks OEM.

1. Cats: Replace primary cats with 100 cell ones. I'll post suitable item's data later. Remove Pac Man -lookalike secondary cats completely.
2. Piping/silencing: In my pics you can see those two perforated pipes, their ID is 45mm and cutting their partially blocked ends open you'll have total flow area equalling one pipe of 63.6mm ID. Slightly larger than OEM outlet (Was ist 60 or 62.5mm??) That was solution A.
Solution B is similar, but includes another same (or slightly smaller) size outlet pipe directly from that "Pac Man chamber" in RUF style. I'd use a perforated pipe inside that chamber (and block the other end) to keep noise level down....
Solution C replaces those perforated pipes with 2" ones and that outlet with a 3" one...
Replace silencing material with new.

Mine has center outlets (3") and it's rather free flowing one, so you can guess how it's done...but none of above, except cats.

Pete tx. I have already removed my 400 + 200 cell cats and have 100 cell race cats in the front section with Pac men & steel wooll removed. The next stage I now think is simply to completely cut out the second section of perforated pipes rather than drilling out the ends

There was a sponsor offering up up-graded stock exhausts (PBK) Porsche By Ken and this might be the right answer rather than doing this all on your own. Not sure if he is still a sponsor, but if not just do a search for his contacts. No affiliation.

tvm but I do understand engineering & enjoy doing this, I have just completely redesigned the Ferrari Scuderia exhaust by pass system if you watch Ferrarichat.com 360/430 section

I believe that 2'' is still too small for a worth while power increase and it would restrict further mods.
I know a few PCA members that gutted there system out and used 2.5 piping and it made a great difference.
If you are going to go thru that work I believe you should do it also for the best results now and for later..
LOL..This is my post #2013 and my first post of 2013..LOL.
