I can't take it anymore!!!
DO I REALLY HAVE TO WAIT 2000 MILES???
I have almost 900 nice and pampered easy miles on my car and I am dying to nail that throttle!! Why 2000 miles???? |
Of course you don't have to wait. The only people who actually wait are the same people that rub their cars with diapers and never let the car see as much as a cloud in the sky. Give it everything it has and more. You won't regret it.

Keep her under 4000 for the first 1k, after 1k your good to go.

There is some belief that you should drive it when you break it in... like you are going to drive it after it is broken in... read; no break-in.
I, like you, had a REALLY hard time waiting... so I didn't. The outcome? I am now burning about 1/4 a quart of oil every 2,000 miles... less than most from what I hear. Coincidence? Who knows... Were I you... I would change the oil (myself of course... don't trust the dolts at the dealership; even with something as simple as an oil change) and then... LET HER RIP! Kind Regards, Joe West |
Joe,
I am thinking on the line of your advice. I planned on the oil change at 1000 miles anyway. I am also considering transmission and differential fluids. Any idea of a good source for oil filters, washers, etc? |
900 or a 1000 miles what the hell is the difference... the reason you bought that beast is to drive the sh@t out of it..!! so do it
|
Good idea of that oil change at 1,000, we changed the oil in the Turbo at 1,000 and the GT2 at 500.
|
FYI when I build a turbo motor it gets pounced 2-300 miles into the build. The motor is going to seat, or it isn't at this mileage. By holding full boost through first second and third gear and not letting up you force the rings to seat immediately. I have build hundreds of motors this way. A NA car is a different story, but a turbo is a whole new ball game.

I changed the oil in the transaxle, front differential, and engine all right around 1,000 miles.
You would NOT BELIEVE the metal content in the transaxle and front differential... I poured the oil out and it glinted like metalic paint. After the initial oil changes (replacing all the fluids at 1-2k miles), I will probably change them all out again around 10k... check the metal content, and then decide how long to let it go before changing the fluids again. I used all the fluids recommended by Porsche... including the 0-40W Mobile one oil in the engine. Changing all the fluids in your Porsche is a piece of cake... If you need some help... I'd be happy to walk you through it. Kind Regards, Joe Originally posted by Periokid Joe, I am thinking on the line of your advice. I planned on the oil change at 1000 miles anyway. 2,000 break in miles, HA!
Just floor it! |
I guess I got my answer from you guys :)
|
I would have lost my mind 900 miles ago...who could you wait that long...
|
The break in is more related to help the differential and transimission break in more then the engine. The break in is more of a procautionary measure IMHO.

900 so far... did red-lined yesterday :D
