Audio upgrade tomorrow

Going to get my audio redone tomorrow.
Previous owner already replaced the MOST systems with the following:
JL 500/5 amp
JL 6" sub array behind rear seats
JL speakers XR653-CS up front and XR650-CX in rear
Alpine XM headunit CDA-9813

No inputs for ipod/iphone with this setup. I decided to go with the following to take advantage of iPhone 5 features (nav, siri, music, apps)
Will move AC to lower console. Here is everything needed with costs to support iPhone 5.

- Pioneer AppRadio2 SPH-DA100 ($211 amazon after rebates)
- Pioneer cable Kit CD-IH202 ($60 amazon)
- Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter ($50 amazon)
- Apple Lightning to USB Cable ($20 amazon)
- Parking brake micro bypass ($25 amazon)
- Square storage shelf 996 552 253 01 01C (as AC will move into lower spot) ($50 bumperplugs)
- HVAC trim / bezel 996 552 339 00 01C (as shape at lower section is a bit curved) ($7 dealer)
- Install cost and installer will make custom trim that goes around the AppRadio2 unit.
- Also required is the February 2013 firmware v8.30 - this adds support for iPhone5.

After pictures coming tomorrow

Subscribed as well- on paper a big fan of the Appradio2. You can also get a OBD2 input into the unit to get a lot more info. Try to add that as well.

Even cheaper now! $320 on Amazon plus a $120 mail-in rebate thru Pioneer after you get it. I really did not go for it based on price -that's more of a bonus. I like the functionality concept.

Digital Car Audio in Roswell GA.
I doubt they would let people in to take pics / observe their work...just my opinion though.
Omar is the main sales guy there, have used them in the past.

Not sure on final install cost yet (I didn't even ask - haha).

So I got the install done. I cannot really judge yet how I like it as I have not played with it much. After I got my car back, I had to update the firmware in order to recognize the iPhone 5, worked fine.
Now I just need to spend some time with it (I'm not good at reading manuals)

As for the install:
Looks fine - I wouldn't say a premier job but certainly better than I could do.

The shop made the trim/bezel that goes around the App Radio - it is just OK (IMO). The AC moved to the lower stack and curved trim (factory part) looks perfect.

Worst part is this - the cables from the AppRadio USB port to the plug to connect the iPhone is like 2-3 feet of cable, some of it bulky. You really need access to it in case you ever have to apply a firmware update. This is all in the shelf compartment and occupies just about the entire space. I don't like this at all - I'm going to go back and see if they can redo. Maybe locate it in the glove box.

You can also see where they located the microphone and the antenna - I'm not sold on it yet, I like stuff concealed.

Cost of install was $250 which included the radio trim.

I'll post again after spending some time with the functionality of the App Radio

I don't see the amazon dealer on the vendor rebate list. Sure it will go through? It says fulfilled by amazon. Not trying to rain on the deal, just want to make sure everyone gets their rebate.

**update**

Crutchfield - which is an authorized dealer has it for $255 shipped after rebate. (code 3A788 $25 off of $250 or more) includes wiring kit, antenna adapter, android connection kit (cost over $100). Seems like a better deal and the rebate will work. Out of stock now, but back in stock on the 20th. Just ordered one.

thomapa1 - Found out that the amazon rebate will not work at all according to pioneer.

For a car of this calibre I would have gone with a set-up with components from DynAudio or McIntosh. IMHO JBL/Pioneer are lower tier products.

Disagree. To each their own taste and likes. There are much higher end products out there but at what point is too much money for very little gain. There will always be debates on hertz, DynAudio, Focal,SEAS, and numerous other components you can cram into these vehicles but you are still talking about air volume parameters that you can't control.

I think that like everything else we do, the best bang for the buck is still what makes the owner smile at the end of the day.

Looks really nice, and the total price installed is sensational! I hope you really enjoy it.
