What's this cars value?

A friend of my has the opportunity to buy another friends 996tt coming off of a lease. I'd like to hear your comments on what a fair price is for this car.

2001 996 Turbo
6 Speed
Black/black
50K miles
Carbon console, shifter, wheel
lightly optioned
Cruiser, not racer (at least for the last 25K miles)
Missing badge from hood but serial # matches (possible repaint)

Thoughts?

TIA

My guess is high 60's with the current values.

996turbo Jul 21, 2005 04:36 PM

I agree....high sixties

henryr Jul 21, 2005 04:40 PM

i'd say low high 50's to real low 60's. why would you buy a 50k mile car for high 60's?? i've passed on <10k miles cars for very low 70's. Spend the extra $10k.

turbo_freak Jul 21, 2005 04:49 PM

that is a lot of miles for a car that retailed for almost 100k new
good luck

I think someone who wants that kind of car would spend the extra $ for low miles

LapisCayenne Jul 21, 2005 05:05 PM

High 50's will not happen. High 60's is where its at.

With 50K miles? Ebay and Autotrader have many with less than half the miles for 70-72K.

Can you the consumer buy from manheim? Auction prices on TTs have been in $ 60k range you a long time.

Manheim is dealer only. Repaint does not matter, you will never know until you get the car back from auction. You get what you pay for! If you look at the results they describe the one for 60k as in below average condition.
And oh yeah here are the auction results, so where do you get 50k?

06/23/05 RIVRSIDE Lease $68,000 28,177 Avg BLUE 6G 6 Yes
06/23/05 RIVRSIDE Regular $63,000 45,793 Below SILVER 6G M Yes
06/23/05 RIVRSIDE Lease $60,000 45,373 Below YELLOW 6G A No
06/22/05 RIVRSIDE Regular $72,500 29,993 Above Silver 6G A Yes

No shyte, about dealer only. That is my point. Those posting auction prices as a market indicator on what consumers pay is misleading. I have a buddy with a dealer license and used to go to auctions with him to pick up cars for me, but it got to be a pain and the good cars that are clean still bring pretty close to top dollar.

Those $ 50k cars at auction are $ 50k for a reason. Also, sometimes dealers keep the nice clean stuff and only send the beat up crap they don't want to mess with to auction. You get what you pay for.

henryr Jul 22, 2005 07:54 PM

first off. the "dealer" only auctions are littered with dealers buying cars for retail buyers and charging cost plus $500. i don't think these numbers reflect "wholesale" as much as one would think.

second, i never said $50k. i said low to high $50's is what i would pay for the car.

third, here's what my manheim print out has as the latest sales...

7/14/05 MANHEIM $65,000 12,629 miles
7/13/05 NADE $59,100 39,691 miles
7/12/05 DFW $65,000 34,079 miles
7/12/05 FAAO $68,000 16,563 miles
7/7/05 GTR TAMPA $ 65,800 23,370 miles
7/6/05 W PALM $66,000 26,777 miles
7/6/05 W PALM $ 59,800 51,806 miles
6/30/05 MANHEIM $ 70,750 12,459 miles
6/30/05 MANHEIM $ 69,750 13,079 miles
6/30/05 MANHEIM $ 64,000 31,633 miles
6/29/05 ATLANTA $ 59,700 44,419 miles

i have no reason to believe that this car would not be considered average and since it is missing the hood badge (which is bolted from the factory to the hood, no?) it has had paint work. from my experience, the condition listings are meaningless, they have been compiled from $6/hr auction yahoos.

BartN (TX) Jul 30, 2005 07:18 AM

Henryr: Actually there is a badge delete option for the 911. The original factory option sticker is still in place and usually that's the indicator of whether a hood has been replaced or repainted. Also, the car is/was in excellent condition.

It's all a mute point now anyway since the car has now been spoken for and my freind is out of luck.

Thanks for all of the input guys. If the car hadn't been taken out from underneath him your input would have definitely helped him make the decision to buy it.

Why couldn't you look at the latest auctions and figure out the depreciation per mile is on the wholesale level. If you take the high and the low, the 39K mile car has deprecaited $.42 mile vs. the 12K mile car. If retail numbers are in the upper to mid 70s for a low mile car, then a high mile car should retail in the mid 60s.

Just my opinion.
