Yea, I have a feeling what chevy did was spend a month doing R&D, when they found what their stock Z06 would then be they ran that time. I doubt they took the stock Z06 and then tuned it beyond what the stock one will be, but maybe. So, I was comparing it to porsche spending many days over the course of development of a car at the ring (since it's right there and they use it often, and chevy only gets out once) and then AMS drives what is then the completed model.
I'd be very disapointed in chevy if they indeed hot rodded the car up beyond stock for that run.

I personally hope the car was in fact stock with only a tuned suspension. Porsche needs all the competition it can get to not sleep on its laurels.

I don't know why they'd lie about it and say it was a z06 and not the blue devil

I'm not saying either of us is right or wrong, I just don't know why one of chevy's head guys would lie about it. I wish people would just be more clear about ****.
No need to bash a performance car, especially one that forces other manufacturers to stay on their toes (997 TT). You'd be foolish to think that Porsche isn't interested in the performance numbers of the Z06, Viper, etc. Since most owners can't/don't race, paper racing is the bragging rights alot of people want in the form of 0-60, 1/4, etc. The truth all comes out when all the cars are brought together in one place and tested by one of the mags. Even within a manufacturer politics comes into play as evidenced by the Boxster/Cayman/997 heirarchy and how they are careful not to let one of the little siblings be better on paper than the bigger brother. Before the 997, unless loaded with expensive options the Porsche interiors were very basic looking crap. Some purists might say they like it that way but give me something more modern in my modern car. If I want 1970's then I'll by a car from that decade.
