Lets Put A Corvette Engine In A Porsche?
Having a little thread drama over at my site, thought you guys might find this one amusing. Why in Gods name would anyone want to ruin the handling characteristics of a light weight, rear engined German sports car by throwing in a heavy, pushrod, slow reving American v8, is absolutly beyond me.

just like why the hell would you put an LSx V8 into a last gen RX7.
complete blasphemy |
Wow, im glad we agree with each other! It feels like your the first, there really is no reason as to why its wrong, but it is. Not only does it ruin handling, but it goes against why the car was built etc..
Mazda RX + Original Rotary Engine = FUN!! |
i guess the best way to put it, is that the car loses its 'soul'

There was an outfit at German Autofest marketing a similar set-up . . . . they claimed their V8 was lighter than the stock Porsche engine, such that they achieved more power in a lighter car . . . . they claimed 480 NA HP and 600 HP with a small shot of NOS, and they allegedly turned a 9.2 1/4 mile.
Notwithstanding the impressive claimed performance statistics, the car is, IMHO, no longer a Porsche . . . rather, it is more akin to a kit car. Craig |

Where is George 911-V8?
|
Bet Katrina got him.

Corvette engine would be great in a kit car, its powerful, relativly cheap and easy to mod. But in a BMW, Porsche, or any other German car? I think not!

The rear "spoiler" (no pun intended) looks great! hilarious

Re: Lets Put A Corvette Engine In A Porsche?
the LS1 motor weighs a tad over 400 lbs, probably the same as the porsche motor.
Also just about the same as the rotary :) I've got a buddy w/ an LS1 RX7 back east. He says the car is just an absolute blast around a track. Much respect to this guy for the project he did in that 911 and for some reason a ls1 in an e36 M3 now really really intrigues me you keep talking about heavy, slow, unbalanced V8 hilarious You do realize the LS is probably one of the top motors made right now right? It's anything but heavy, slow revving and unbalanced |
