My car makes a nice chatter/clunk in WOT above certain rpms.
This is on my E85 tune, MAFLESS.

It does not happen in 5th or 3rd gear at high rpms. I get the usual low rpm chatter from my LWFW but this is a pronounced rattle/chatter at high speed.

IS this the clutch telling me it is bye bye's time ?

Car drives fine apart from that and at normal boost at other times.

I am switching back to the 93 octane tune for winter next week

 

hard to say, keep checking if it gets any louder/worse or rpm change....I also have LWFW. and when its cold, like now.....it makes more chatter popcorn noise. no clunk tho.

 

if rpms continue to climb and the mph does not then the clutch is gone or going. if thats not happening then its possible a part of the system may be failing i.e. clutch rod needle bearings, t/o bearing etc. and needs to be addressed. at least you know were to go to find out!

 

Does the car shimmy at all?
2WD or AWD?

 

Yes car shimmy in 2nd gear at any decent thumping on the throttle, sometimes in 3rd

 

I have seen a bad diff do funny stuff. One drive and Tim should be able to tell you.

 

get it looked at right away... I suggest by tim.... do not guess... it may be something else other then a clutch... good luck

 

I am embarassed to say the problem went away somewhat but I discovered what it was by luck/accident.... my frunk lid seems to develop a "rattle" or "chirp" at a natural frequency of the car at 98-103 mph... does it in 3rd-4th but I only hear it in 4th cause the car is really loud in 3rd on WOT....... I really thought the noise was coming from the rear of the car but with my drivers window down it is a real loud front end vibrato twang. When I stopped the car and opened/closed the frunk after a refuel I noticed the clunk and exact noise I hear in the car (muffled)

Meh not the above, did a few WOT in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th and sometimes and only sometimes I get a light clunk in 4th gear at now 4000 rpms - of the 5 pulls I did in 4th it had a minor 1/2 sec clunk/chatter only twice... car idles perfectly, hits and holds boost except for tires slipping in 2nd etc.

I did a video with sound so will try to post before I leave for airport

Will log it again when I get back next week

 

Here it makes the noise at 7-8 seconds not at 20-22 seconds and again at 25-26 seconds.

Only in 4th gear and only WOT at about 70-75 mph 4000 rpms or so.
