Diy clutch change??!
Do I dare?
I'm mechanically inclined. Built two or three motors, built 3 turbo kits from scratch. Done everything on 996 so far, except injectors, paid for it
I have a 4 post lift in my garage. Will I have enough access?
Thoughts?

With those resources, get started already!
I did the same job on jack stands. It took me the better of 15 hrs total, as I had to do it in 1-2 hrs chunks after putting my kids to sleep each day.
It's definitely a big job with lots of covers/braces/lines to get through before you can access it. That and a couple tricky blind steps. But totally doable as you sound mechanically inclined.
It comes down to time IMO. If you have it, go for it.

yes, don't try to carry/lift the trans over to the other side of the garage lol
go for it, you may have to fiddle with the shift forks ( as we did ) to get it all back aligned and IN, ( took there times in/out to get em to align just right! ) but it's not THAT difficult with the know how.. and the lift! good luck.

I guess I'm thinking of the tools I'll need.
Tranny jack of some type... My ceilings are low do the regular tall ones won't work.
It's makes the 830 labor I was quoted seem less. You know?

^ it cost me 200 to rent the lift that i dont have any reason to own.. and then another 3/400 in beer/labor/chicken. only you can know whether its worth it. plus a g note on the clutch. that was the best deal of all.
my shop would've charged 600 in/out for the trans plus replace clutch and button it up. i spent the same trying to diy it, but then my DIY is actually pretty low on the "Y" scale lol.
it's just that any DIY is outside the purview of ripoff shop owners that feel since you have a porsche, that they should have their hand deeply inside your pocket. that alone is priceless.
caveat: my shop is anything BUT ripoff. they are straight up track rats that do the best work I've ever seen, never an excuse or redo. i just thought i could tackle this with my bud. tackle is the right word LOL

Know if anyone has the dimensions? Like how tall the trans is?
I'm not going to carry it. Just making sure I can get a cart/jack in and out that supports enough weight.

Ready to install, 158 pounds for the manual transmission and the tip is 272 pounds. (repair manual page 8)
stilov, I did it couple of times and you will need a transmission jack. Also the instruction in the repair manual are very good! Starting at page 720…. The only difficulty is to properly tape the clutch fork in the center before installing the transmission…. Also you will found roller bearings for the clutch control shaft. They can fall on the ground, if my memory is good you should have 28 small roller bearing per side LOL!!!

I think what I am going to do is use my giant floor jack with an adapter and just put it on a cart to raise it up off the ground a bit more.
That way I can still get under the lift and sit down while working...
