Where Can I Buy 315/30-18 Street Tires?
I'm sorry correction just checked the car, I have 245/40/18 front and 315/30/18 rears. Fronts slightly taller than rears mainly since I'm awd and as stated eariler it's for the power transfer. Front rims are 18x8.5 rears 18x11. It's a nice meaty setup on the car personally I think this is how it should of came on the 996 turbo from factory
we sure don't have many choices.
last i checked tire rack cpl weeks ago was O/S but my tire guy said his distribber had them. i will be there friday working on another car and i will ask. i'm also pricing the rivals but pretty sure i can get rears for $365. thats 135 - from the ps2 and that works for me. i'll let you know what i'm able to find out about availability of both the rivals and the ps2's in 315/30. are you in the CONUS?
Here's my understanding...hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
The first number is tire tread width, in mm.
The second number is the sidewall height, as a percentage of the width.
245/40 would be 245mm wide, with a 98mm sidewall.
235/40 would be 235mm wide, with a 94mm sidewall.

good fit for a 9"? i think the rivals are gonna be a better tire than the falkens. not sure why, just a hunch. who jumps first.. you or me.
245/40-18 is very happy on a 9" wide wheel.
I'm just waiting to see if my factory/current GT2 wheels sell or not.

If they sell it'll be Rival's on OZ's from T.R(package deal)
No sell by Spring, Falken's on stockers.
Cheers,
Rob

I too was looking for the best of both worlds.
A tire that is good on both the track and street.
I AX about 12 times a year and do 2 to 4 DE events every year.
I am in a very competitive stock class for AX and I have to be very careful the tire selection.
I went through a set of PS2's in less than 6 months (cracks were forming where the tread met the sidewall).
There are only a couple of manufacturers that offer the larger sizes in 18 inch wheels.
I decided to go with the Rivals in 315 and 245, because every time I have ever gone wider I have been faster.
I have been very impressed. The Rivals made it through the entire Season (all be it, they were completely done), and I did win my class. The Rivals tread that wraps around the sidewall works incredibly well.
And even though the tread was almost completely gone, they never gave up much grip. Amazing.
Did I say, this car is also my daily driver?
BFG is also owned by Michelin and they are going after the high performance market.
Oh, and they are waaaayyy less expensive than the PS series.
I just put on a new set.
I hope this helps.

I was in a jam a while back on getting a new set of the same size on the rears. I wanted the Michelin but they were two months back order. Fortunately Tire Rack had many other options to choose from. I ended up getting Toyo R888s and I just absolutely love the tires. I previously had Falken RT615Ks in the same size.
Pros of Toyo R888 vs Falken RT615K:
Toyos have far superior grip in all temperature conditions i've seen so far (50F to 100F).
Toyos are significantly quieter than the Falkens.
Toyos don't track the pavement grooves like the Falkens so at low speeds on grooved road you have a better drive.
Toyos are a lot cheaper
Cons of Toyo vs Falken:
Toyos are not as good in the rain but unless it's your only car you can usually avoid this issue.
Tread depth is lower and thus shorter wear, but this is off set by the cheaper price. It's a wash at the end of the day for dollars spent per mile driven.
Other tire options include:
BFG Rival (may be next best option to the Micehlin)
Nitto NTO1 (on par with the Toyo R888)
Kumho Ecsta XS
Yokahama Advan Sport (about $400 each)
Pirelli Roso
Michelin PS2 (Always back ordered. Need to buy well in advance. About $500 each)
Oh, and Tire Rack had all of these. The Toyo were the most readily available, which is why I bought them, but I'm very happy with how the tires perform.

Interesting, how long have you had the Toyo's?
I've personally had failure and know of many failures from delamination issues, junk tires from knowledge/experience, although work fairly well until total failure. My buddy's track-only Subaru really over-drove the R888's but could be due to setup...
I enjoyed my Falken's, which I didn't initially think I would...really surprised you found driveability better with R888 vs the RT615k's.....
I just had Advan Sports, sidewall is mush, grip is good. Wear is horrific...and no longer available.
PS2's are really nice street tires, but price is stupid/idiotic.
Kuhmo's are also discontinued AFAIK.
Nt-01 unavailable when you need them.
Rosso's are 15 year-old design.
Rival's, somewhat unproven, but could be the new 'it' tire.
R888's I would never own without a proven change in Toyo construction philosophy, risk isn't worth the price/grip IMO.

I've read mixed reviews on the Toyos so hopefully I got a good batch and they'll make it till their bald. If they crap out then I'll probably try the BFG Rival.
I used to run the Michelins on a Corvette Z06 and loved them, but the cost is just crazy and they're always out of stock when you need them.
