P0342 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Low Input
#31
I did just check for that very reason, thinking one of the cels might be low, but it's a sealed unit. I'm gonna have aaa come test it but it'll give a deceptively hi amp reading since I now have it fully trickled and "charged".
if its faulty I'd like them to replace it since its so "new".

There's a thread on the first page about better Walmart batteries....I got my AGM Bosch from Pepboys when they were having a few coupons that I stacked (buying online and pickup in store is cheaper than paying in store).

Drive down to an autozone, browse around a bit, then ask them to test the battery for you -- that way you won't have been fresh off the charger.

I know this is a little old, but it seems to me your committing a cardinal sin in troubleshooting. Your stuck on a a step part that you've kind of confirmed is ok. By the troubleshooting steps for this code if your battery voltage checks ok, you should move on. You haven't said anything about checking the cable to and/or your starter yet. I'm going thru this right now on my Accent, but I was having an intermittent drain to no crank condition first. I had the battery and charging system tested, both checked ok. Drove 45 miles going home from the test and car just died at a stop sign. Again battery seemed drained. Put a good battery in cranked no start and then pulled the p0342 code.
So I'm thinking my starter is draining/shorting out.
In the activation sequence for the Cam sensor it says it has to receive the full 12v signal for 1.5 sec to engage intake/fuel. I don't think I'm hearing my fuel pump. So what I'm thinking would be a good test is to supply 12v to the cam sensor wire direct, before the starter to see if I get fuel pump engagement. Sound right?

I can't speak to any of what you suggest, but given I still intermittently get the cam position CEL? so it isn't "ok", if the codes are accurate. I did at first suspect a low battery but have ruled that out. I am swapping it out for a new one that is sitting in my glove box now. it will work much better than the old one currently throwing codes
