I am installing some GT2/3 front uprights into my 996 TT. I have found that the tie rod end does not fit into the new uprights due to the hole not being large enough. I am wondering if I need new tie rod ball joints to fit or if I can press out the inserts that are in the gt2/3 uprights?

Something is not right Don. You are missing the bottom portion of the upright tie rod joint in our first picture. The steering linkage from the 996TT/GT2 will fit the 996GT2/3/Cup upright without any modifications. As a matter of fact, the steering linkage joint is the same dimension on all the tie rods and this includes stock or Cup. I've run both..

Don,

Your first pic looks like there was a bump steer kit installed and the taper bushing that the bolt goes through was left in there. the second pic the hardened steel insert stayed on the ball joint. As pwdrhound points out they all use the same ball joints diameter and taper.

Thanks guys, I believe you are correct! Now the next question, are these inserts pressed in? Are they easily removable?
