Need some tire size help. Screw 315/25-19's...
So, I need a different tire size to run, and rubber in the 315/25-19 variety is getting pretty damn scarce. I have a set of T1Rs right now but have a broken belt in one and need to buy at lest a pair of rear tires. All i can find now is the Mich Pilot Sport PS2 and the Nitto Invo.
I want to go with a different tire size to give me some more choice. I did some research on the 305/30-19s and here is the size differences between the two... https://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/ti...305x30xR19.png My biggest concern is rub I guess... as this tire is taller by .5" per sidewall, or a full 1.0" in diameter. Is there a tire people are using in place of the 315 that I'm not thinking of? |
Just went thru this change. Go to PSS 305/30/19 and call it done.
|
I've been running this combo on stock suspension for a year now.
Front: 245/35/19 on 19x8.5 rim 45 offset Rears: 305/30/19 on 19x11 rim with 52 offset. I plan to get 10 mm spacers for the rears |
I'm lowered on springs and had to ditch the 315s to 305s. I was rubbing all over. Better choices. Lower prices. Zero rubbing now. I use 14mm spaces
|
If your 996TT is still AWD and you are running 235/35R19 front tires the most correct rear tire size is 295/30R19. The 305/30R19 is definitely too tall in terms of keeping the AWD system happy.
|
I'm running a Michelin pss in 305/3/19 and car is lowered on H&R's. I get rubbing only when I hit a pretty big dip or bump on the freeway.
|
Ah I should have clarified. I am RWD converted.
Did some measuring, I believe the 305/30 will work ok for me. Just concerned it's gonna look huge sidewall-wise. I do think I need to go with a wider front tire, as my 235's seem to look too narrow for my wheels... |

To clarify, PSS are Michelin Super Sport Pilots ?
And I think my rear wheels are 11's :( |
Correct.
11s will work too. Were you running 315/25/19s before. If so, 305s will fit. The PSS are a little less square on the sides compared to the 315 PS2s, which helps with clearance even with the taller sidewall |
My 235's i run now look way to narrow for my wheel. They aren't stretched but I need wider. is 245 enough or should i look into a 255?
|
I would stick with the 245s. They are on the wide side for an 8.5" rim (what I run) and fit perfect on a 9" rim.
255s will rub without pulling front fenders and modifying fender liners ect. |
245s it is then. Thanks for the help!

Just a heads up, Tire Rack has the T1Rs back in stock. I got my new rears a couple weeks ago.

Well, so much for PSS this time around I guess. I took your advice and went with the Toyos from Tire Rack. I got them a few days ago and they go on the car next Wednesday. I won't be doing any track time only highly spirited street driving (when appropriate )so I hope they don't let me down. I've read good and bad reviews of both the T1Rs and the Invos so a I couldn't get a good feel either way. As they say, opinions and ... everyone has one. That said, I decided on the Toyos due to their availability and of course the price made made it easier to say "what the heck, I'll give 'em a shot". Thanks again for mentioning the option was out there. I should have my very own opinion on them soon enough! |

305/30/19 on 19x11 +45 toyo R888 street use daily driver

I gave up on 19". Could only find Nittos. Dropped backed down to once piece 18" HRE's. Lighter, handles better, stops faster, tires are cheaper. The roads are so bad down here, driving on 19" is a gamble.

^ Funny cause I read "roads are so bad"...let's see where in the boonies he lives.
Nope...he's right here at home in SD. Same bad roads I drive on, with my 19's. Which is why I went from PS2 315/25/19s -> S04 305/30/19s. The ride is incredibly better. To the point that the wife doesn't mind riding in the car again. The S04's also have the benefit that they don't "slap" on road joints and breaks as loudly. |

While I've not had T1R's on my Porsche, I've had them on a previous sports sedan. They're no where in the same league. Soft sidewalls. More a GT summer tire.

How are they performing?
To put my review in perspective, I've only owned the car for about a year and it had ancient (circa 2007) PS2 N-spec tires on it that were about half worn when I got it so I don't have a lot of tire feel experience on the 996 turbo. The old PS2s were a little spooky in 70 MPH + sweeping corners and made the car kind of wiggle throughout the turn. These Toyos did that a little at first too, but not as bad and the sensation is almost gone now that I have some miles on the tires. I do use PSS tires on my daily driver (05 Subaru WRX STi) and ran PS2s on it before they wore out. I absolutely love the PSS tires so much that I put them on my wife's Legacy spec.B too. I was seriously bummed that I couldn't get them for the 911 and somewhat begrudgingly went with the Toyos. I am perfectly happy with the Toyos though and they have performed just fine for moderate to aggressive street use, but that said, when they wear out, and IF I can get the PSS tires, I'll switch to them in a New York minute, I like them that much on the Subies that I drive. |

I'm running 19x8.5 235/35/19 & 19x12 with a 305/30/19 with Michelin pilot sport cup 2's. I'm lowered on H&R coil overs. It rides great with no rubbing at all.

Looks like the 305s are the way to go.
