What's the Best Pump Gas Turbo?

Hey guys. While throwing back a few beers the other night with fellow 996tt enthusiasts, the topic of the best "pump gas" (93 octane) turbo currently on the market came up. I'm curious as to what you guys think is the best pump gas turbo? Thanks.

Yes..93oct is what you need to run. At least from the pump :D

Thats kinda a weird question, it depends on what your power goals are and how much boost you want to run...

The problem with these super fast spooling turbos is its pretty violent to the rods.

the guys pushing the envelope on the A28's and even the earlier GT28's found this out. So now the tuners are trying to tune out the hit/shock onto the drivetrain and rods.

So alot of the cars that are holding up well in the long term are running either slightly larger turbos that dont spool so fast (GT30's) or they are Tuning the Torque and the hit of the fast spooling turbo to be much softer/smoother.

If your car had a built bottom end id say the these smaller hard hitting turbos would be great!

just something to think about...

I think what the OP is asking is do you guys find different results with different pump stations. I know here in California where we have crap 91 anyway 76 seems to be more solid. I used to have an NSX with a supercharger on it and detonation was my unwanted friend unfortunately. With 76 it was clear. And I feel like my turbo is a little more consistent running that fuel. I know you can definitely get crappy gas at any time from any place also. Some stations have more detergents or poorer quality.

Your experiences?

I thought he meant brand names also but sure wasn't clear lol.

Growing up I always bought chevron with techron...

Then when I got into bmws I bought shell.

I actually find the gas at the Kroger by my house better than the shell station.

I can't remember what brand of gas it is though. The Kroger a couple miles away is where they have e85 that I would run in my 335i.

The best pump gas turbo is the best gas that turbos pump.

For a stock Turbo any of the name brand top tier gasoline of the proper octane grade should be fine.

I've run (in CA and elsewhere) 91 octane (or in some places 93 octane and even in a few higher elevations 90 octane) Shell, Chevon, 76, Unocal in my Turbo without any issues.

Buy from a busy station to ensure you get the freshest gasoline.

Porsche advises if the car's engine reacts to the gasoline to switch brands.

I suspect the problem would be more likely stale gas rather than something to the brand of gasoline, but maybe not.

With my Boxster when was using discount gasoline I found a marginal converter was much more sensitive to the discount gasoline and the CEL would come on more often. I moved and the discount station became inconvenient to use and I switched to Shell and with the same driving conditions the CEL remained off. While it did come on once in a while it was much less frequent with Shell in the tank vs. the discount gasoline.
