K16 billets are potent if done right
To some this is old news, but I see many new members on here with stock 996s. I wanted to re introduce what $1495 turbo upgrade can do if done right...
K16s can be upgraded to k16 billets- there are different ones on the market. Some rebuild the turbos meanwhile others do not. In most cases, if the turbo is in good condition it doesn't need rebuilding.
these turbos with our injectors, exhaust, 3.5" sport intercoolers, pump gas tune, on 101 octane ran a record 5.86 seconds 60 to 130mph on normal street tires and 6.2 seconds on pump gas. Now to some that might not mean much, go ahead try to do one and see how far off you will be... I bet most cars with 600 whp will have a hard time doing it...
My point is, before you go spend all sort of moneys on turbo kits, remember that you do have a good starting point and when guided properly the set up can be potent. Most guys make classic mistakes, take the car to a non 996TT experienced shop, have no clue on boost leaks, nor even tune just outsource.. furthermore, they release cars without any data logs to make sure the car is doing what it supposed too.
Now, I see all sort of crazy HP dynos which to me do not mean much... ironically this car only made 570rwhp...
Do your homework guys before you spend the $$$
hope I opened up some eyes...

Awesome what that simple package can do. Mine is still bone stock! but I have seen this info on your website markski a while back (before I got my 996tt). Even before I got the car I pretty much decided on k16 billets
wolfhedge, I think the car was a manual but I'm sure markski will clarify

Manual car with 19". Lol
If I had more time and load it with a race file who knows. Car had 200 cell cats too. Mind you we are talking about $1500 billets a set plus 1 bar wgs.

Awesome work as always Mark.
These things make me so mad that my car is X50. Realize that I can hybrid the k24s, but not excited for big lag.

Here's where most guys make mistakes:
They buy turbos from xxx- the wgs are never inspected and made sure they are set right and hold, they get OTC tunes that promise the world- no data logs no adjustments, huge injectors that are not as friendly at idle and part throttle as 60s or 72s, they cheap out on Intercoolers that blow end tanks and or hoses pop off- but most assume they are gods gift to a 996tt owner, they don't get the right plugs and def do not gap them right, take it to a shop that doesn't have specific experience in 996TTs, never do boost leak tests nor data logs, etc. on and on. I can go on. How do I know ? Because I get these cars and I fix them. In the end, cutting corners on a tune or Ics and going to some inexperienced shop who throws the parts on and never even knows how to pressure test and more so fix the leaks, check the wgs, the n75, log it all and make sure it's all doing what it should is were the short comings are.
This is easy if done right from the beginning and in the end you save money. I just had a client tell me they charged him $1300 to drop the motor to fix boost/ vacuum leaks. I almost fell off the chair when I heard that.
Best

I saw that you have a K16 tip running 11.1. Is that pretty standard for the K16s? Say average 11.3-11.5 with a manual? How would the K24 spec 1 and 2 compare? Shouldn't they be quicker/faster?

Haha, yeah I know. Just wish they had more upside over the K16s. The K16 billets put up similar numbers, with much less lag and better 60-130 times. Not fair.

I would do spec II all day long for anyone that has 24s. Add injectors and Intercoolers and ur flying. On 100 plus octane watch out. That's all I have to say.

Idk what the average is at the 1/4 mile with the k16 billets is. He's having traction issues and I think he can run 10.8 no problem.
I would do spec II all day long for anyone that has 24s. Add injectors and Intercoolers and ur flying. On 109 plus octane watch out. That's all I have to say.

i have the older lowly hybrid 16/24's and while not billet wheels idgaf. i boost test frequently. no parts are old as i replace stuff on a whim ( if it's a cheap part known to fail ) and there is no lag at all. which helps me as i'm often hitting max boost while traversing hill and dale.
but i have often wondered what a side by side of billet 16's vs what i run would look like. guess i'll never know. but if i did have to swap out my entire setup turbos/tune all of it, this is the guy i would turn to ( if not umw as his turbos are no joke either ) but that's pretty narrowed down.
great to see what those little monsters can do. keep on keepin on lil' turbos lol

I have Markski's tune with K16 billets, and injectors.
Everything he said is spot on. I initially had multiple boost leaks at the IPD plenum, intake runners, and diverter valves. My 997.2 intercooler diy install had a problem with the intercooler hose install and it popped off on the road. After addressing the above issues, receiving awesome customer support from Markski, and having the tune tweaked by doing several durametric data runs my car is finally sorted and runs incredible compared to stock.

Also the car was not on 19" wheels. It was in fact on 18" wheels with toyo R888 tires.
