Seat Comparisson

I figured I'd post this for those looking at some good performance bucket seat options. I had OEM Recaro GT3 Euro seats in my car which are absolutely fantastic seats but decided to go for a more aggressive track seat set up. I spent a lot of hours behind the wheel of spec boxsters with Recaro Pro Racer Hans seats and really like their support. After looking at all options, I decided to go with the Kevlar Recaro Profi Spa seats for my car which still sees a tiny amount of street use and as such I did not want a Hans seat due to the requirement for a quick release steering wheel. After installing the Spas in my car last week and spending 3 track days in them I have to say that I absolutely love them. They are incredibly supportive and very very comfortable (once you're in them). The OEM GT3 Euro seats in comparison now feel like sofas. I say that jokingly as I think that the GT3 Euro seats are still the most comfortable seats I have ever owned and are supremely useable on the street while providing near race seat support. The Recaro Profi Spas are about 1.4" narrower than the OEM GT3 seats and have much more pronounced side bolsters in the forward part of the seat which gives you much better bracing in high G turns. The seat pad is very thin which really connects your butt dyno with the car. The Spas are also incredibly light at 10.9lbs per seat vs. 17.5lbs for the GT3 buckets. With side mounts and rails the Spas weigh 22.6lbs vs. 28.6lbs for the GT3 seats. I also have a set of OEM Carbon CGT seats on hand and they weigh 13.2lbs per seat and 24.3lbs complete with rails and mounts.

Fitment wise, the Profi Spas are the tightest and most supportive. They are a great fit for anyone up to a 33" waist (these are excellent seats if you wanna keep fat chicks from riding in your car). The OEM GT3 seats will provide a much roomier fit in the hip area while still providing a very supportive fit in the shoulders comparable to the Spas. The OEM CGT seats are again a hair wider than the GT3 seats in the hip area but slightly narrower in the shoulder area.

In case anyone is interested, the OEM Carbon CGT seats (same seats were offered as option in the Euro 997GT3RS) are up for sale and I will be posting them up shortly this week. They are extremely rare and in mint condition without any blemishes in the leather, alcantara, or the Kevlar shell. Porsche crest is in the headrest. Suncoast sells these seats for $17,900 and can be seen here:

I am asking $10K for the seats plus shipping. Seats are complete with OEM sliders and side mounts but the harness attachment pegs will need to be purchased separately.

seat porn alert! lol
nice comparison, have thought about selling my GT2Euro seats and going to a more 'focused' seat but Euro seats just are 'right' for the car...my problem is most seats narrow enough(Euro's are a bit big) for me have the harness slots too low for my shoulders... :(,,,, No issue with Euro's, and what ultimately sold me on them...I do need some B.K. or similar side mounts to lower the seat/headroom...

Rob,
The Spas have the harness slots right in the middle of the Euro GT3 ones. In the picture above they look lower because the Spas do not have sliders attached. I am running the Spas with BK side mounts (custom ordered with a GT3 lap belt attachment on both sides and OEM sliders. The seat sits just a hair lower than the GT3 seat. I'm 5'10 and with a Hans the shoulder belts align perfectly with the slots.

The Spas aren't priced badly in comparison to the Euro GT3s and look at home in your car.

I just installed a pair of euro gt3 seats. I had them for one day before learning i was not able to live with the seating position. I installed the seats late Saturday night, the first drive was Sunday by Monday morning i ordered the BK mounts. I set them on the lowest setting front and rear ( i took out the memory box under the seat and now have no fitment issues) after my first drive i fell in love with them. The BK mounts in my opinion were 100% necessary for me!

Thanks John,
I'm about the same height but carry most of it through my torso. Belt sits about halfway through the shoulder opening so it sounds like the Spa's might work as well...the Sparco EVO's I was considering fit me perfectly but the shoulder openings were below the top of my shoulder :(
I'll probably keep the Euro's and get some BK drop mounts...I could also delete the slider unit as I'm the only driver
Cheers,
Rob

Think I'll be ordering the BK's soon :)
