DV's replacing
I've read a lot about this. How do I know if the diverter valves need replacing?
Are there any other things on an '02 Turbo I should be looking for? (My attention has always been on the C2, so I'm playing catch up to TT issues) |
Basically they start to make a honking sound, I never heard it but just changed them to the EVO Billet valves myself. If you change them you will be suprised that Porsche used such a cheap piece of crap plastic piece on the blow off valve.
Same thing with the clip that holds your shifter to your shifter cable cheap piece of plastic that broke on me twice. EVO has a metal replacement for that as well. Good luck! |
DV's
Scott,
First, congrats on your TT. I also moved up from a C-2. You made the right choice. You can tell if your DVs are bad by the sound. Between 2500-3500 rpms, and under moderate acceleration, you will hear a moaning sound. Some people refer to it as a honking sound. A few dealers will replace them under warranty with Baileys. Others will insist on replacing them with OEM Bosch DVs. The replacement Bosch DVs are no help. They go bad as well. They're cheap plastic. The Baileys are an all metal piston-type DV. I replaced my own, and while it was a PIA due to large hands, the performance improvement was very noticable. I have 14,000 miles on my '02TT and have had no issues other than a malfunction with the inner door in the fuel filler tube. Easy fix. If you decide to change out your DVs, let me know and I'll walk you thru it. |
Thanks!
Sounds like the first thing I'm going to do is change them.
It's a DIY? I'm not familiar w/ this engine at all yet, so that should be interesting. :) I will definitely take you up on your help. Where should I buy the EVO ones and what's the ballpark cost? If I can get the metal ones under warranty, is that a better option? |

I got my Baileys from Mike...If its your first DIY do not do it as it is a major PITA!! Have someone familiar with the engine do it...and with small hands as the spece in there is quite cramped
|
I'm thinking I'll go for warranty as long as they're not the cheap ones. If I can't do that, I'll pay someone to put in nice ones.
|
Mine are being replaced right now...under warranty...supposedly with metal ones...should have the car back this evening and will post pictures of these "new" factory replacements
|
If you know the techs...you can always have the replacement labor doen under warranty but you supply the parts...A friend did that when they replaced his tranny and put his own clutch.....WIsh I thought about that earlier as labor for replacing the clutch is ridiculous..
|
Oh... good idea. That's the way to go. I can get that done.
I'm just not good w/ my hands in small cramped spaces like that. I tend to damage things... either my hands or the thing I'm working on. |
You'll need plenty of patience and very small hands will help. LOL!
My hands and knuckles were torn apart! |

OK, just got the car back with the new DV's replaced by Porsche under warranty...they are black so it is difficult to tell APPEAR to be metal as opposed to plastic....see the pic.
Prior to replacement, I could hit 1.0 bar (only mods are upsolute chip and a little tinkering with the stock exhaust), but it was a stretch and it would only hold for a second, and on the way home from the dealer tonight I hit 1.1 bar in 3rd gear and held it easily. Couldn't repeat due to traffic. |
Those look like the stock ones...see my sig...
