Sunroof Open Too Far - Cannot Close

Sunroof Open Too Far - Cannot Close
Whilst trying to track down a water leak in my car I unclipped the rear of the headlining to check the sunroof channels
I opened the sunroof fully to have a look around (used the two stage retract, to ensure it was fully opened)
Well, I don't know if the rear bar of the headlining acts as a stopper to stop the sunroof from 'over-opening' but my sunroof will now no longer close - It's stuck in the fully open position
I don't know if the sunroof has opened further than normal due to the headliner being down, and something has gotten trapped under it which is stopping it from shutting again
When I try to close the roof it only moves 1/8" on the RHS and then retracts back again
The LHS doesn't move at all
Anybody got any ideas?

Sure did, it's stuck solid
It'll only move when I press the button, but it only moves a 1/8" at the very most on one side and then puts back again
I think it's gone back further than normal with the rear headlining removed, and it's trapped something which is now stopping it closing again

Just found a warning in the repair manual: "The sliding roof frame must not be moved to the "Open" position when the sliding roof panel has
been removed. The trim of the sliding/tilting roof (Item 4) must be shifted without the use of force."...You did not remove the panel?

Try the reset procedure to see if it closes:
1. Press open button until it stops. Release button.
2. Press the open button again until it stops a second time (it should completely retract on the second push). Release button.
3. Press open button again and hold. After approximately 10 seconds, the top will cycle through close/lift/lower/open/close. Be sure to keep the button pressed the entire time until the top closes the second time, then release the button. You should now have one-touch.
I would just try step 3 to see if it closes the roof.

Thanks guys
I haven't removed any panels or parts of the sunroof at all
All I have done is unclip the headlining at the rear so I could check if my sunroof drains were blocked
After unclipping the headlining and checking the drain hoses I opened the sunroof fully to check the drain channels were clear
When I then tried to close the sunroof I found it is stuck/jammed
Prior to this the sunroof was working perfectly, so I'm wondering if the piece of interior trim that attaches to the rest of the headlining also acts as a stopper so the sunroof doesn't retract too far
I've tried the 'relearn' procedure, but it does look like somethings jammed
I wonder if it's the wind deflector that pops up at the rear of the sunroof when it's in its tilt position

Happened to me when you move it forward with the button but stop the sunroof before it moves back. Look with a flash light behind the sunroof and you will see a long tab. Sometimes it gets caught you need to move it up with a screw driver and it will close.
Click the link look at 23 there's a flap there that gets caught sometimes.

I had the same problem when I had my 2001 and the relearn procedure fixed it.
It took a few tries, it's important to make sure you hold the open button for 10 seconds and continue to hold while it cycles. Hope you get it figured out.

Perfect!
The sunroof had moved back too far and the long tab came into contact with the roof causing it to jam
I had to pull the tab down and away from the roof while using one of my feet to operate the sunroof button
Interestingly, both the open and close button would cause the roof to retract. Only the tilt button would get the roof to try and close
The roof would only move around 1/16" once I'd pulled the tab down, so I had to stop and push the actual sunroof itself forward slightly on its rails. Then pull the tab down again and press the tilt button
I did this a few times and it worked its way free and moved itself to the tilt position
From there I tried the open button and it's all back to normal again
I don't think I've articulated it particularly well, and I'm on my phone now, but I hope that helps someone in the future
