The B8 has a shorter piston stroke because it is designed to be used with lowering springs that allow for less compression and therefore less travel. Has zero to do with affecting ride height.

i knew the b8's were shorter and why. that they do not affect the ride height in and of them themselves, makes sense. i suppose that's what the lowering springs are for. thanks for the correction.

I just found this thread. I've been running the B8 H&R sport spring combo on my '99 C4 since April '16. I also used the Tarrett camber plates due to cost (actually cheaper than stock rubber units) and the fact that my stock ones were totally shot. The difference in ride quality, handling and looks was pretty amazing - I'm very happy with the result. Overall it was a fairly easy albeit time consuming job - I had some serious difficulty getting the passenger side strut to spring perch bolt out of the wheel carrier - I didn't want to break anything so it took me almost a week of soaking, hammering, heating (lightly) and a lot of swearing. Fortunately the car was off the road for the winter at the time so there was no deadline to get it finished. I wound up with an extra pair of Bilstein B8 front struts (brand new in the box) so if anyone is interested, shoot me a PM and I'll make you a deal - I'm not going to give them away, but you won't find them cheaper anywhere else

For those running this combo with camber plates, how much higher is the front? Can you post pics? Camber plates typically raise the suspension lightly, curious how the car looks with the b8 + H&R + camber plates setup.

If it was warmer out I'd get around to installing mine, I picked up the Tarretts due to the price difference on new rubber OEM top hats also.

Well get to it! It is warm enough

Once you are done, swing by Elmhurst so I can see in person.

Difference in B8 and B6. Looks like body and mounting points are all the same, just different shaft length.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe his concern/question relates to the height of the top hats being used. Stock oem rubber/metal vs an adjustable Tarrett for example.

Just posting a picture of a B8 and a B6 next to each other for anyone interested. Not engaging in any specific discussion

To answer my own question, Tarret Top mounts raise the car between 3/16" to 1/8".

Elephant Racing do not alter the height at all.

once in awhile i awake from a bad dream in which i am recalling in vivid detail the difficulties my extremely competent porsche tech friend and i had attempting to simply install the tarret camber plates on my 996 turbo. calls to ira included.

"adjustable" my ***.

Your posts are usually pretty entertaining. Can you do me a favor and go back to your Steve McQueen avatar? It's simplier finding your posts

Were you guys installing the tarret plates with strut/spring still in the car? Not sure why it was so difficult. I mean the adjustability isn't great because you can only have that 1 degree setting or nothing. Just based on where you put the bolts.

ha! another comedian. i like.

yeah,
well.. it's a litany of errors and confusion.. and all of it was well "docudrama'd" here.

they just wouldn't fit and there is an adjustment, but that's a "camber" "forward"? moving adjustment ( as i recall?.. it's a few years back... and i have difficulty remembering yesterday ).

but yes, struts etc were in the car, just up on stands... was supposed to be a straightforward install, and it wasn't. X 3!

the best anecdotal evidence of this fiasco i remember from the time, was that "slider's" issues here, which were similar to mine, yet he was able and figured it out but not without some external manipulation of the plates ( iirc?? ).

i gave up. i won't embarrass the luminaries that were equally "perplexed" at the time of my repeated install attempts and as i noted this included phone calls to ira there. but all are known, and highly respected and, well.. back to oem for me

and yeah...I'm still searching for the perfect dont call me bruce/caitlin/gt3 avatar to replace my former mcqueen one to reflect just exactly how absurdly ridiculously messed up this world has become. hah. just please, don't be mad or think me insensitive! some of my best friends are mcqueens!!

but thx for the suggestion! "68 bullit comeback"!

When I get around to mine, I'll try to report back on anything I run into with the Tarrets.
