Jayzbird and some others who installed the newer coils, what year cars do you have and x50 or not?
After reading through this is what I've come up with, it seems the guys with '03 and '04 have not had issues.
jayzbird '03 x50
Stebo '04
b4stiTTS '03 x50
rmc1148 '??
Macster '03
Ronny- '??
estoril4dr '03
fasafulu '03 x50

I have an '01 and trying to source the older style from pelican, but if they can't find, I'll have to go with the taller ones.

Added mine above. I only had a problem with the taller coils on #5 as noted in my original post. But others did not, so it's a bit of a mystery. You will also have to shim the heat shield so it's not resting against the top of the coils.

I have the BBI coils which are Okada (I believe). No problems here - and I would bet they would be a little more forgiving for something like the battery problem in the other thread...

FYI, so I've been trying to order the slightly older style coils to avoid any possibilities of issues for the install for the last few weeks.
I've looked on the net for part 997-602-104-00 which is also Beru ZS036 on the box and could not find a set of 6 so I went ahead and ordered them from Pelican.
Before ordering I called the sales line and explained what I was looking for and why, he seemed to be aware and said if I ordered part# 997-602-104-00 from their site I will get the shorter coils, without the new torx bolts.
1 week later they came and I received the newer style 997-602-104-02 which is Beru ZS178 on the box. I called back Pelican and explained what happened, they said no problem and to send them back and they will ship me the correct part. So sent back and waited another couple and days and they sent me the newer style again 997-602-104-02.
Apparently you cannot get the slightly older coils unless you see them with your own eyes. I'm going to try them and hopefully it goes smoothly.

But for anyone looking to order new coils, save yourself 40 bucks and just order the older ones for cheaper, they will send you the newer style anyways with new bolts.

I've alway run Bosch 0986221016 Ignition coils. Direct bolt on without any bolt issues.

I recently purchased 997-602-104-02-M47 coils from pelicanparts and longer bolts came with them. They are much thicker then the original ones. I had zero fitment issues. Everything went back together with ease. I have an 01.

I think that might be an old part number and has been probably been superseded. When's the last time you used that number to order.

Looking at pelican, the older part number for the Beru are more expensive than the 02 version. What was the full pelican part num you ordered and price if you dont mind.

Nope. It's a good part number. These are the coils that Kevin at UMW uses in all tuned cars. That's what I've been running on my 3.8
