The 590k Mile 996TT

Remember reading about this car a short while back when the owner got a mention from PCA (the first 557,000 miles)

Recently it has made its debut again and it is for sale with 590,000 Miles!! In doing some research (supposedly listed on craigslist Minneapolis) the post is already gone. Wondering who picked it up? Hopefully they will join our community on 6speed, as I would be great to see their follow their journey as they continue to rack up the miles.

Furthermore, what a tribute to our powertrain! As mentioned this owner even has billets with that high mileage, Mezger! Goes to show everyone how far proper maintenance can take us, and truly how robust these cars are.

I know, truly insane- especially since it is up North and has to have experienced some winter driving time as related to the mileage. Car looks great- kudos to the new buyer for going all in.

Once you go that far, I feel like you should continue to run it until complete failure just out of principle. Why stop at 590K :)

Haha- I know. At this point the new owner owes it to the car to literally run that engine until failure. Would be truly interesting to see another 100-200k on it..

Over at RL there is a member named T2 who is right around 500K miles mark. What is unreal is that at about 375,000 miles he tore the engine down to rebuild and everything was still within spec!! His car is well documented over there. I'm thinking that these engines, if well maintained will out live all of us!! ;) Really pretty amazing stuff.

After 50+yrs of design, it shouldn't be all that surprising that a Manufacturer of Porsche's pedigree can build an car that can live an extremely extensive life. But even having said that, it is pretty freaking remarkable!

I do recall reading about T2's example. He's a year round all weather driver, who always cared for his car. I believe that thread you are referring to (or another similar from T2- has a breakdown of everything he had replaced in that time frame.) Funny thing is, the list consists mainly of basic wear and tear items we all had or will have to replace. Again, I'm not surprised the Mezger is unbelievable.

There is a 996 GT3 out there I saw awhile back- has 140,000 miles, with nearly 70k of them purely on the track. Runs flawless.. My understanding besides the basic consumables (brakes, tires clutch etc.) the guy had to replace his variocam sensors- and later found out it was the simple broken brackets- not the sensors themselves.
