Oil Pressure Sending Unit access

Looking for some advice...I've searched around the forums and haven't come up with anybody DIY'ing this - I know where it is. I know how to get to it. My question is - to lower the engine or not to lower? It's tight back there. Thanks in advance.

Lower it a bit. I cut a cheap wrench in half to get in there if I remember correctly.

Agree. I'd lower it a bit. Pretty straight forward. Here's a couple of pics that may help. I did this a couple of months ago.

I looked at mine last night, as my gauge has just started bouncing around. tight is an understatement, no room unless engine is lowered and plumbing removed.

If the gauge is bouncing, clean the connectors and crimp it a little. It usually will make it function normal. All you'll need is a long set of needle nose pliers also.

Yea - the gauge was bouncing around and usually falls to the bottom and provides no reading. I've noticed it does respond when I mess around with the connections (I can only reach with a long screwdriver). Maybe I'll take the plenum and DV's off to get a better angle and tighten those connections first.

From my understanding - the two engine mounts on either side are the only things I need to loosen in order to drop the engine a bit? Obviously, I would support the the engine with a 2x6 and a jack from underneath first.

Thanks to everyone for the comments!

Yes unbolt the mounts, leave the nut on, and lower engine. Careful as you can only go so far before the right side oil tank will hit the subframe.

If you just want to try and tighten the connectors, you don't have to take anything apart. Just get the right pliers as pictured above.

Thanks again for all the feedback. I ended up having to remove the y-pipe, the DV's and disconnect some other misc. vac hoses to get a good angle at this damn thing. The car as EVOMS DV's - not sure if these are larger than stock, but this was the only way I could access this guy without lowering the engine.

One of the wires slipped right off when I got a hold of it. I crimped it down and reconnected. After a short drive - the gauge is working as it should again. Just in time for it to sit in the garage all winter

I think a short shifter is next on the agenda... Cheers!

Lowering the engine is so easy. I changed my DVs out once without doing it and the next time with. If you do anything on top of the engine it is worth the 15 min to lower the engine. Unless of course you like skinned knuckles and frustrated cursing.

Agreed! It was a real PITA trying to reach back there without interfering with other components too. Next time I will drop it.

Had the same problem gauge was reading “0” it ended up being a loose connection so I pinched the ends a bit and it’s fitting more snug on the terminal now. Needle activated right away at startup.
