front differential drain plug stripped
So I decided to do a little work before track season starts, and change the trans and front diff oil. I got the drain plug off the front differential, other than being on there pretty tight I didn't notice anything wrong with it, but when I went to put it back on, I threaded it by hand, used a small hand wrench to put it flush, then grabbed my torque wrench to cinch it down. The bolt just started spinning with the torque wrench. I stopped and unscrewed it, pretty much all the threads, except the inner most one was gone on the diff. I carefully reseated the plug and tightened it to what I thought the last thread would stand and refilled the reservoir.
No leaks so far, but I'm not sure how to deal with this mess. My car only has 18k miles, so I think I am the first person to touch this plug, is it possible it was overtorqued from the factory? I have no idea how this happened, and I'm not sure the best way to fix it...

You could go to a local machine shop and bring the old plug. You want to go bigger to the point that you will be removing the thread completely from the existing hole and starting over fresh. The plug is really just a nice bolt so it's not that complicated.

I never updated this. I bought a helicoil kit on ebay from china. It was $50, and worked perfect. Really easy job. Now I have nice steel threads in the case. Shouldn't be a problem again.
