Sharkster's Shoot Out Thoughts
I'm going to try and make this post as discrete as possible but before I get back to finishing my work (I have an overdue cover story to write), I just wanted to share a few words with all of those that were involved and supported the whole event from my perspective.
I'd like us to stick to what we all agreed to with European Car on the first day and give them the respect of not talking about specific numbers in public until the magazine is published. I've looked over some of the threads/posts made over the last few days and from my perspective some of what was posted was accurate, some of it wasn't and some of it I just don't know how any of us that were there could even know. There is still so much more subjective information/analysis to be made by Cort Wagner/European Car that none of us could really tell who won what and why. All I know is that there were some VERY VERY fast, great handling cars. I was amazed at how different each and every car was. The components, approaches and schools of though varied tremendously. By the end of the get-together I think the tuners/owners involved learned a lot and earned much respect from all those involved.
The Imagine 640t car Powered By Zero Clearance
Nobody else brought a tip to the event which obviously means that everyone else believed it was going be a disadvantage. You guys proved it could and should be done. Stephen, Kevin, my wife and I spent many hours/days/nights transform her into XXXXXXX (those of you there can remember what Cort said so I'll leave the specifics out). Yes it was unfortunate that the Tip wouldn't dyno correctly and perhaps in the future we can use the information obtained from our runs to figure out a way to do so for other high HP tip owners. It's safe to say that she handles great, is powerful and very fast. To anyone out there with a Tiptronic 996TT being scoffed/laughed at, take no notice. Stephen/Kevin/ImagineAuto.com can make any 996TT tip compete with the very best 6speeds. I **** you not.
Over the last few weeks and especially during the event, I have had many PMs and Emails requesting full disclosure of the mods done to the car. I'm sorry for the lack of responses to each and every individual but I think in the next few days I'll start up a thread and walk through some of what was done (I'm sure Stephen and Kevin can fill in so many of the blanks).
Stephen and Kevin were not only a tremendous asset to our own Tip project but those two guys are willing to help anyone/everyone/anytime. I don’t know how/why they do that but they do. I saw them wrenching, suggesting and helping with other cars throughout the event. In fact, we all chose Stephen to do the unbiased exhaust test way back when and we all know why. I knew then what I found out at the event. Both of them are just complete Porsche-nut-cases and make for one hell of a team. Nothing is too difficult, too small, and impossible for these two Porschephiles. Whatever it takes…
I have so many questions/Emails for Kevin from you guys that I will try to just have forwarded to him (after he gets some VERY deserved sleep!). Zero Clearance, knife edging the crank and so on...
ViperBob
Bob allowed us to travel in-style and get the car down there safely at all hours of the night. I know most of the Bay Area and 993TT crowd already knows of Bob Brooks but let me just say that this guy is AWESOME. His support/help/knowledge was a tremendous asset! He gave his time/efforts/knowledge not only to us with a sore knee but also to everyone there at different times. All the thanks he got was a gun pointed at him (you had to be there to get that). You sir, are a true gent.
European Car
Dan and Les, on behalf of all use Porsche owners that wanted to see this happen, you guys took on a very difficult and risky project. It was the first time, to my knowledge anyway, that a Porsche-only event such as this was held. I hope that we all learn from your observations and expertise. Next year will be even better, I’m sure. Your ideas, tests, time and general expertise were truly put to the test this week and you guys came out shinning. We appreciate your efforts. My sub’ is in the mail…
Garrett/Andrew/GIAC
You guys are a class act. Your time/effort and ability to ensure a level playing field for everyone was very much appreciated. If anyone can figure out how to dyno the tip it’s going to be you. You guys swore you wouldn’t break her on the dyno and you kept your promise! Oh and your boost maps make me smile…
Cort Wagner
The guy can drive and how he adapted to so many different cars in such a short time I don’t know. He went out full guns. Also Tyson can confirm he can also let it rip in the 1/4mile too!
Most of all, the time he took after the road course to talk to us about the strengths/weaknesses of each car was very much appreciated. That is the kind of information that is priceless. You just can’t buy that. He is a class act and has an extremely sleek sense of humor. Also he was Bob’s first instructor so I know who my wife and I will be begging for lessons soon!
Michelin
Doug Brown was true to his word and somehow got the majority of us some brilliant tires. Believe me when I say we put them to good use! Thank you.

To all the folks that said thanks either in Email, PMs or in person please just give yourselves a pat on the back for just making the effort of showing up. It really was a pleasure for me to try and get this event, which was originally conceived by CJV, picked up once again and taken up by European Car. I think they did a fantastic job in the end. I know it wasn't always easy, cheap nor did it fit in with your schedules but we all did complete the arduous two days of testing and can go home in one piece. From the cars that did show up it was obvious that many and hour was spent building them. Fred/Buddy/Todd, Tyson/Tyson/Wilber, Herschel/Eric/Cargraphic, Dan, Alex/Rob, Apex and everyone involved that I haven't mentioned. Your cars are all insane and your personalities aren't much further behind. I enjoyed meeting you all.
And the winner is...
All of us. We came, we saw, we competed and Cort drove the living **** out of our beasts and we all went home in one piece (Buddy you are a star for driving thousands of miles to TOD- hats off pal!)
Finally thank you to 6speedonline. You guys were a great community/forum that enabled us to get the word/message out and without you there would likely have been no shoot out. Thank you, thank you and thank you for putting up with all the threads/arguments and well-hung complexes. I think it’s safe to say the winner of that particular event was MonkeyTronix.
Before I sign off for a few days (I have to get my cover story done) let me just add that I’ve spoken to European Car and Betty Joe Turner at Panorama and I’ve been given the go ahead to submit a piece on the event which transpired, through my eyes. It will be done AFTER European Car's and be quite different and more from a different perspective. After all I'm not a pro like those guys. There are obviously no guarantees it will get published but being a journalist myself, I’ll give it my best shot. I’ll be contacting all of those involved over the next few weeks, so please keep your pictures/notes in a safe place and away from public eyes.
My wife rules, as does Stephen’s and Kevin’s. They were so patient. Joan supported me through all of this and spent many an hour taking bumpers off/on, messing with intercoolers and wiring all kinds of gear. Thank you dear. Best of all, on the way home she said “Why did you only get one five point harness?”
PS OK fellas/gals, same place, same time, next year, right? That's plenty of time to get all of those clutches fixed and other lil' issues sorted hehe...

I must move on from the ghetto however but I'll be bringing all of my ghettoness with me
Stephen and Kevin dressed her up and she's not going to turn back into a pumpkin at 12midnight... I have a feeling this won't be the last of her
Thanks for being so supportive!

Hi guys, I just wanted to re-iterate that out of respect to European Car, that we not go ahead and post results publically all over the place. We honestly don't know who won (I think we all did but that's me) and let's leave it to them to report on. Every car there was a monster, plain and simple.
GREAT THREAD ALEX!!! Hats off to you for putting this together in the first place after so many other all talk no action attempts
Cant wait to send my car for new turbos etc...
