Anyone have a gearbox detent they can lend me?
Looking for a "modified" gearbox detent that I can borrow for a bit to take measurements.
If someone that has one has some mics and is willing to take all the measurements that works too.
Not looking to do any shady business, I just want to make one for my self and need the modified measurements.
Gbox keeps raising the price on theirs and if they don't stop soon it will be as much as a rebuild.

other options for 2nd gear pop exist. i think timnyc has an entire thread on this drop in ball bearing "fix" which many have had success with. here's a start, but admittedly not the answer to your query. i assumed it was to prevent or mitigate 2nd gear pop out.

Yes, It's the later (prevention) and why I'm not wanting to shell out over $200 for a $20 part. Especially when I can make it in my shop for even less.
Thanks for the heads up on the thread. Gonna go that route for sure.

gl w it. obviously, you're tech capable, whereas i am not. but i know 2nd gear popout intimately well, having bought a car with it. long story, but porsche repaired it. but I've been VERY mindful of it since. the thought an 8mm ball bearing could lessen/stop or even prevent this amused me to no end. i think thats the ticket and i talked to eric at gbox about 7 years ago about the detent. i'm still a bit dubious but many say it also works just fine. personally i think proper shim specs of the gearbox and gear stack placement is a more optimal long term solution, but thats my uneducated non mechanical "thinking".
this all as i went for a gbox rebuild a cpl times ( two cars one for 2nd gear pop, next for new bearings ) and am more gentle with my gearbox than anything or anyone. the timnyc thread is 17 pages long. well worth the read if you find it. its "recent". again, GL!

Thanks, but don't kill yourself looking.
Once I got the detent out and saw what the 8mm ball's purpose was I just made a "shim" on my lathe.
By measurements and calculation I think the 8mm ball ends up with 7mm of added shim under the spring, so I made an 8mm x 7mm shim and installed that.

Appreciate the offer.
I believe I have it licked with the spacer I made. Shifting feels a lot better. It's feels more "engaged" in each gear and enhanced the rifle bolt like shifting of the Numeric setup.
My guess is that the Gbox unit simply has a shallower hole drilled in the middle of the detent so the spring is pre-loaded more, just like the factory 8mm ball solution.
The shim took me 15 minutes or so to turn on the lathe and cost maybe .02 in electricity
Maybe I could make some and sell them for $100 ... sorry the Porsche tax just kills me sometimes.

I know this thread has been dead for a while but, just posting a follow up.
I ended up getting my hands on a detent not too long ago and made a couple.
Gbox on the right and my 2 on the left. This was before final finishing/tumbling.
Funny thing is, the only dimension that is different from the stock one is the roller that engages the pawl in the trans. So if your trans does not already have the 8mm ball IMO this detent does little to nothing. Combining the smaller roller for deeper engagement in the pawl with the 8mm ball for added spring pressure makes a difference.
