original 1000-mile K16 turbines or rebuilt ones?

Car is 2002 996 turbo and 100K miles.

I think I have a leaking turbine seal, oil of 500cc has been found in one of the intercooler, when new coils were installed. I come across a supposedly slightly used turbines that were removed and kept in storage with 1000 miles on them for over 15 yrs and then the rebuilt ones. Which is a better pick if prices are $1300, about the same for either. how easily can seals go bad, simply by sitting in storage?

And... is leaking oil a big issue? I hv no idea how long it took to come to 500cc in the intercooler. The car drives fine. The boost builds up to 0.6 fairly fast. but 0.7 is harder and much longer time. (I remember seeing 0.8, but that was long, long time ago. LOL)

Any advices would be appreciated!!

I know this post is almost a month old, but my drivers side turbo also dumps a bit of oil into the drivers side intercooler. I've never measured the quantity, but it's noticeable. Unless the car is smoking on hard access or during engine braking, your seals are fine.

Though if you really want new turbos, the re-built ones would be a better bet IMO.

agree. if i needed to replace turbos? now way i'd put stock k16's in. too many other choices, though a re-tune would be required with hybrids and makes the most sense.

The oil in the drivers side intercooler is because the PCV pipe is at the inlet of the left turbo. It's normal.
