Wheel question for DE events
 

Hi folks I need some direction so i can make a decision on wheels.

I'm looking for new wheels for street and DE Events. Basically (8.5 x 18 & 11 x 18).
Tires 1. 235-40-18 (r25.4) and 315-30-18 (r25.3)
2. 235-40-18 (r25.4) and 295-30-18 (r25.3)

I noticed some rims come with inserts. Is it best to stay with wheels that are machined hubcentric. Hence no inserts ? Will the tire sizes work for AWD ?

The wheels will require hub centric rings which are provided. Im told this is not the best set up on a car for DE events.

My car is lowered using x73 Porsche sport suspension. I dont want to roll rear fenders if possible. Hence avoiding 12 inch rims in rear.

I have used the stock turbo twists with Sport Cup 315's for over 15 years at DE and track events with no issues. I have 245's on the front.

Gunther, thanks for your DE feedback. I push the hell out of this car at watkins glen the inner loop and always clip some of the rumble strip. So I want to be sure i will not rub. I believe option 2 below will work (no rubbing) as you mentioned correct on 18 x 8 and 18 x11 rims ?

I have x73 suspension with some negative camber...

awd turbo tire diameter options
225/40-18 - 25.1" stock
295/30-18- 25.9" stock

235/40-18 - 25.4" option 1
295/30-18 - 25.9" option 1

235/40-18 - 25.4" option 2
315/30-18 - 25.4" option 2

315/30 is fine on the twists and will fit 11's without rubbing. it's when you get into using spacers on 11's that rolling fenders becomes required. the increased plant, stance and ride on 12" rears is well worth the minor mod of rolling rear liners.

"non" hubcentric wheels are never "optimal".

I have been running their ARC-8s on my M3 for years and they make great light weight wheels.

thanks for the info on the rear 12 inch wheels or using spacers. As well as confirming wheels need to be hubcentric

Zummie curious are the "ARC-8s" hubcentric (meaning no wheel inserts) ? thanks

those in our gt2 sizes look like a terrific alternative to an equally yet no less useable wheel than the OZ. cheap but light, and durable. works for me.

never heard of these. would be great to hear of folks running them on this platform. good find.

Plan on 245/315
Also lowered on kw v3s. I'll probably have to do some light modding to get it to fit perfect

As others have mentioned, we have great 18" solutions for your 996 Turbo which were designed specifically for the Porsche platform - no centering rings required. 996 Turbo Front Wheel Options:
18x8.5" ET50
18x8.5" ET42
18x9" ET46

996 Turbo Rear Wheel Options:
18x11" ET36
18x12" ET45

The staggered configurations that I recommend for the 996 Turbo are:

18x8.5" ET42 - 225/40-18 (25.1" tall) or 235/40-18 (25.4" tall)
18x11" ET36 - 295/30-18 (25" tall)

18x8.5" ET42 or 18x9" ET46 - 235/40-18 (25.4" tall)
18x12" ET45 - 315/30-18 (25.4" tall)

18x9" ET46 - 245/40-18 (25.7" tall) or 255/35-18 (25" tall)
18x12" ET45 - 315/30-18 (25.4" tall)

Although a 315 tire can safely be mounted to an 11" wheel (like the factory turbo twist), a 12" wheel will provide superior sidewall support for improved performance/handling. How much negative camber do you have dialed in, and is there a particular compound that you would like to run? I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

I'm with the guy above. If you want to stay 8.5 and 11, why not just keep the stock twists? I use them as track wheels with 245 and 315 wide rubber.
If you're spending money, go for 9 and 12 inch wheels.

Then apex for the rear will need spacers when running 12 inch rear tires thanks for the heads up
