Considering Buying 1st 996 Turbo, What do you think?
Hi All -
I am thinking about buying my first P-car, a 2001 996 Turbo with 62K miles. The car looks clean and well taken care of with records history. Anything I should look out for on this year? And advice you can give me when looking at the car? What do you think the car is worth?
Thanks for your help.

Looks pretty clean. You know the interior is Metropol Blue and not Black, right?
Check for debris build-up in front radiator inlets. Debris can rot the bottom of the radiators.
Check to make sure you can pump the clutch pedal at least 15 times when car is shut off without pedal feeling changing vs when car is on. Clutch accumulators go bad frequently.
Pop off caps on hydraulic spoiler rams and check for any signs of leakage.
Accelerate and decelerate while in second gear and make sure it doesn't pop out of gear.
Those are most of the common issues with these cars. A PPI done by a shop that is knowledgable with 996 Turbos can be very valuable too.
Good Luck!

That is a GORGEOUS 996tt- great stance and looks super clean. Find out what mods it has (exhaust, flash, turbo, suspension, ICs, clutch, coolant lines,,,) maintenance, and price?

Nice clean car. Would get ppi done. Not sure if the carbon fiber bits are from the factory or put in later but they look very nice. They often delaminate over time. I would check the build sheet and see if any mods were done. Looks like a great find.
With respect to 2001, there are no cupholders. Later models have them but they are still weak. Porsche believes you should be driving the car and not sipping lattes lol. Also the turbo twists were solid I believe instead of hollow spokes. That also is not a big deal with day to day driving.

Driver side engine mount seems to need replacement due to the sagging exhaust tip on that side compared to the passenger. Maybe a possible negotiation point? Definitely get a PPI but car seems very clean. I miss my 2001 Arctic silver 996TT very much. Good luck!

If the car looked as nice in the flesh as the photos and it passed a PPI, I may be in for up to $30K if I was in the market. I still think it's a buyers market on these cars. I see nice examples for cheap prices being for sale for several months. I'd not buy it sight unseen, however. Many things become revealed that do not show in photos. I've made my living buying, selling, maintaining, custom building vehicles for over 4 decades.
Look out for 2nd gear pop out, a very expensive repair. Coolant leaks, I'd remove the front bumper cover and inspect all 3 radiators for leaks, seeping. Also check underside of chassis and motor, get it on a lift. Check axle boots, rubber parts, brakes. Suspension is obvious lowered, what else? Was this car tracked often and reverted back to stock to command a higher price? Lots to know.
Good luck, obviously a "pro" seller.

The "ugly reality", if these guy's don't know what a car's worth, who does?
These cars are all about emotion, they are not a workhorse, basic transportation, a highly desirable collector car. They are beautiful, reliable, very robust and fun to drive. If the car when advertised nationally, sold within a week or two, I'd say it was priced right. Inventory that sits for months is overpriced.
