996 TT won’t start/ Fuel Smell
 

So I just purchased another 996 TT and drove it 700 miles home ( back where I’m working for summer) yesterday. On the drive whenever I’d stop for fuel and try to restart the car, it took a little more cranking than expected to get the car started.

Now today I go out to the car and all it does is crank with a very strong fuel odor. But will not actually start up. Any advice would help since I’m about 300 miles from a Porsche dealer or indie shop. Thanks

Seems to be leaking from the drivers side of the engine. I can’t tell where, I will pull off the bumper and fender liner later today go get a better look.

Well, if you have a fuel leak and you know it...you should find and fix the leak (sorry for being obvious). As to why your car won't start, perhaps you should measure the fuel pressure. Several things can effect this: fuel filter, fuel pump, hose or connection issues... oh and the leak.

Didn't notice the leak or smell prior to trying to start it. The fuel pump is in the front of the car so it isn’t that. I’m about to pull the bumper and fender liner to try and get a better look

Turned out it was the fuel filter, the mounting tab broke and rubbed a hole in the line. Then the car wouldn't start due to a crank shaft positioning sensor.
