Question for those with Painted Centers Wheels

Ok guys, I think im going to go with the black centers, but had one last question for those with painted centers.

Have you experienced any issues with rock chipping, etc.? Some one had mentioned the cheap quality of the Porsche painted wheels and how easily the paint chipped, etc. Im wondering if this is the case with other manufacturers such as (Fikse, Kinesis, HRE, Techart, etc.)

I spoke to the reps at Kinesis and they said that black annodized is the way to go and much more durable than standard painted centers. However, the price is more than double and im wondering if it's really worth it?

I know there are a number of you with the black centers (techart formula and HREs), but im curious to know which finish you went with (standard paint or black annodized) and your impressions on the durability, etc. of the finish.

Thanks

I had my Kinesis K28 custom painted in the center. I only had them on for 5000 miles before I traded the car, but in that time period I did find a minor chip or two on the painted centers.

BCS,
first do u like the black to be dull or high gloss finish?

if u have no problem with dull than go with black anodize. it is more durable than paint & worth the money. however, if u want high gloss black ask if they can podwercoat black. podwercoat is more durable than paint & all Techart black wheels are podwercoated.

Kinesis told me that the annodized black would have a high polished finish, since i already have high polished centers.

Hmmmm...decisions, decisions.....

Just keep in mind that if you are concerned about the look of the wheels if they chip that on a silver wheel its not very noticeable but on a black center it will be much more noticeable.

I've decide to go with the Powercoated Black Polished finish. It will be much more durable than standard painted centers.

Jas,

After doing some research, I stumbled upon a shop in Maryland that has received rave reviews from a number of people.

The name of the shop is "Ye ole wheel shop" and from what I understand, their wheel refinishing technique/results are top notch and dirt cheap!!!!! I was quoted only 100 for each wheel!

I've talked to other wheel refinishing companies that charge around 250.00 per wheel for just paint and clearcoat.

We'll see.....

I have bronze rims on one of my rice rockets. I've only had one small rock chip in 3 years of ownership and I just marked it in w/ a sharpie.

They dont have a website, so I can only go off of reviews that I have read, etc.

I did talk to the owner and he definitely knew what he was talking about and described the process that the wheels would go through...pretty extensive. They know how to take the wheels apart and reseal them, so im confident the refinishing will come out great.

I called some other shops and they said they would not take the wheels apart and would use tape to cover the bolts, etc. I can only imagine how they would turn out.

I will most likely be sending them out after the new year, so if you want to wait and see how they turn out, let me know.

Definetly keep me posted as I am interested, the wheels I would get done I dont have yet but I have been thinking about powdercoating.

I painted the centers of my RUFs black. Used base/clear and flexed them. Rock chips were still present after about 20K miles. I needed to do them again. I think powdercoating or Anodizing would be the way to go.
