2 MAF's in 2 weeks blown

Replaced my blown MAF about a week ago and then last night at about .7 bar the new one went. I cant believe this. Can anyone give me an idea of what could be causing this and what I can do?

What makes you think it is blown? Have you actually taken resistance readings on it. If it is blown (unlikely), then I am sure that the place you got it from would swap it out for another if you tell them it did not work properly when you put it in.

Would love to know myself so I can avoid that. Stock airbox??

Maybe its not but the last one (which was less than a year old) was removed and cleaned, reset codes and it didnt work. When I compared it to the new one it was obvious that the diode was fried or something. I havent pulled the new one out but its doing the same thing, running rough, CEL, ABS, PSM lights on. Poor throttle response.
I just spoke with evoms and the fix is supposedly just about ready so I am just gonna wait.
BTW, in running the v-flow intake with oiled filter.

Based on what I've read on this forum, this is your culprit. In fact, I would be willing to wager a large sum of money that this is causing your issue.
I'd go w/ paper filter, or take out the v-flow if I were you.

Just my $0.02

Cost/benefit ratio of EVOMS air box is not where it
needs to be...

why would anybody still be using an oiled filter?????

markski@markskituning Apr 28, 2006 01:38 PM

I thought they stopped selling the oiled filters...

I think this is totally wrong! There are MAFs been blown left right and centre and you can guess what's causing it! They way things are going over your side of the ocean, you ain't gonna have any MAFs left to buy soon!

Over here in UK, hardly any MAFs blown, and you may ask yourself why!

I still use an oiled filter and never have problems. MAF cleaning should be part of what you do with every oil change. Also after oiling filter, drive the car for awhile and then remove the MAF and clean. So, oil the filter before you go out and warm up your car to change the oil, and as you are changing the oil, clean the MAF, It's really not a big deal.

I have 7 MAF's taken from Porsche's and BMW's that I had a tech at a Porsche dealer keep frm me when they were replaced because they thought they were fault. NOT ONE of them is bad.

Question for you: Did you blow MAF's before you replaced your standard filter?

I just had V-Flow (dry filter) installed in my car along with a Boxter MAF not too long ago. No probs so far. Apparently, the Boxter MAF's are stronger??
